Hi,
Does anyone know if Arden Grange have changed any of the ingredients in their food?? My two 16 month old bitches were on Puppy, Junior and then Graduate. I took them off Graduate at 15 months and put them on Lamb and Rice and they have become very skinny and lost their coats and I cannot, no matter how much food I give them, seem to put any weight back on them?? I have also tried the Chicken to no avail. I was told the Classic range was better for putting weight on, but have tried Classic and Prestige, still no difference....
My old girl does really well on the chicken, so I would like to keep feeding it if I can, but just wondered if anyone had any ideas??

I feed Arden Grange lamb and rice too and have noticed that they haven't been maintaining their weight, although it's not very severe and I haven't had any problems with loss of coat. I'm ringing them tomorrow so will ask them about it and I'll let you know.

Thanks Bec,
My supplier has arranged for their nutritionist to phone me back at the end of next week, so I should hopefully get some answers as well. Getting a bit desperate now, as they look so scrawny to me. I do keep them lean because they do agility but I would like a little more weight on and their coat back.
Please let me know how you get on,
Gabrielle

Hello yes I rang them and they said that the ingredients hadn't been changed so not really sure why some of mine have lost a bit of body condition. I like you tend to keep my dogs lean so it looks bad when they loose a little.
However, I have recently stopped adding a bit of tinned tripe to their food so it could be that I'm not compensating enough for the loss of that. It could also be because I've moved a lot in the last 6 months and the stress could be taking it's toll. I have also recently had one of my male pups back so that too could be a contributing factor but couldn't be 100% sure on all of this just guessing really.
Let me know what the nutritionist says. I have upped the food to those that have lost a bit of weight so I'll let you know in a week what happens!

eukanuba is great for keeping body on them-i use the lamb and rice and my very picky eater has come on in leaps and bounds on it-eats it and enjoys it, also bodied up wonderfully

I don't like using cereal based products for my dogs which is why I don't use Eukanuba. Have never had a problem before with Arden Grange and have fed it for 6 years. I will find out tomorrow and see if they have changed anything.

we have two dogs on Arden Grange - the working dog mix which is lamb and rice also.

The junior and graduate are probably higher protein than the mix you are now using. Can you remember what the protein content was. You would probably have needed less of the old food to maintain weight than you do on the new food. Have you checked the bag to see the amount of food to weight ratio? It may be that you need to give them more weight in food than you used to.

Our dogs are fine on it and have no problems with older dog.

However, we are feeding our pup on same food as the protein content is 25% as opposed to 26% on IAMS chicken and rice Puppy food - the other contents are mostly same as puppy food (but no maize ) so we feeding him on this as hubby gets the working dog food free from work - however feeding pup on this is probably what is making him super hyper although everything else is fine (at least no diarhoa like on barf like he was on originally)

Hope been helpful to you = good luck.

Hi Karen,
Can't remember the exact amounts, but the Graduate was higher in protein than the lamb and rice. I only took them off the Graduate to be honest because it said to feed it up to 12 months. I kept them on it till 15 months. I only needed to feed three quarters of a cup of Graduate, mixed with chicken and veg and they had good coats and were a good healthy weight, now they are having nearly two cupfulls a day of the chicken and not maintaining the weight or the coat....
They are back on Graduate now, till I get an answer from Arden Grange.
Thanks for your reply,
Gabrielle.

Hi Gabrielle,
Did you use the Prestige for long? It is a very concentrated food, so should start to get the weight on them again quite quickly, and also improve their coats.

I feed the Adult of the original Arden Grange (not the classic chicken or Lamb), as they have a higher meat content than the Classic, much in the way you have the Pedigree Advance, and Pedigree Complete ranges!

I have found the Adult and Prestige to give me excellent coats on my Elkhounds, and especially the champion bitch who comes into full coat very quickly on it after a moult!

I use Adult for them all , and Prestige for nursing bitches, and late pregnancy, and for pups.

My friend uses the Lamb and rice to good effect, especially with the Colitis suffering GSDs.

you will definately have to feed more of the classic than the Graduate, which is much richer and more calorie dense than the adult grades. Also with the smaller pieces in Puppy and Graduate a cupful weighs more than a cupful of the classic. I would weigh the food, and then use a measure that takes a particular volume of it level.

Mine get 200g, or 150 if needing to slim down.

Hi,
Thanks for all your advice.
I fed the Prestige for a couple of weeks, but when I spoke to the rep at LKA, she told me that they use the Classic for getting weight on dogs, more bulk or something......... so I swapped over. They were better on the Graduate, but I took them off it as the supplier had already told me it was time they went onto adult, it was only meant for dogs up to 12 months/ 14 months max.......
I know hormones play a big part in bitches, but there is quite a dramatic weight and coat loss in both, they have also got a clean bill of health off the vet, so I know there is nothing else underlying....
I have switched them back onto Graduate for now until the nutritionist from Arden Grange phones me back. The only thing that worries me is the protein level is high (29%) and I don't want them to become flighty and manic, so hopefully should hear something soon. If not, will have to set about finding them another food, which I don't really want to do as my other dog (GSD) has colitis, and the Chicken is the only food she tolerates and it is much easier to get all the food from the same supplier, but obviously the dogs needs come first, so fingers crossed, I find a solution...
Thanks again,
Gabrielle

Brainless, is it the Classic adult food you feed, or the Prestige Adult?
- By Brainless [gb] Date 31.12.02 21:38 UTC
The original Arden grange with the Frexh chicken and chicken meal has Puppy, Graduate, Adult, and Prestige.

they then brought out a range which has chicken meal, called Classic, and that has puppy, Junior, Adult Chicken and Adult Lamb and Rice, and a lite one.

the new range is a lower nutrient dense food, slightly lowere in Protein and fat across the range.

I use the original Arden Grange, the Adult for Adults, and the Prestige for growers or poor eaters!

Adult has 26% protein and 16% Fat whereas Prestige has 30%Prot and 21% Fat. The adult classic has I think 25% protein and less fat.

The two are a Premium range and a not so high powered range. Mine didn't do as well on the classic, but my freinds dogs do fine on it, I find I get better results and fed lesss of the original.
