Hi
Watching the new pups they are around 24hours old. One had quite a good quantity of something coming out of its bum. I have never had kids either so sorry if its a strange question.
The poo did not look like poo, Orange abit yellow and arguibly in places red tinge very sticky. Is this normal is it becuase they are feeding on Mums colostrum etc?
I then checked all there bums and they have a yellow tings from what must be similer coloured poo?
Panic B Hoping this is normal early poo??

Mum cleans up so you don't normally get to see much but what I have seen is yellowy, not seen any other colours mixed in, it is soft and remains so till they are weaned and getting more roughage in their diet.

Sounds quite normal :)
You want to see a baby's 1st poo it's very much the same!

Yep, yellow orange and all squidgy - lovely eh! One of the few things I didn't see mentioned in TBOTB and shocked me quite a bit on my first litter. The other being that the 'cord' is not really like a cord, more of a thin wide membrane thing!

Friend says it reminds him of peanut butter :-)

Same here. There was no blood in it either which amused me.
Some of my latest litter looked like they were doing 'curry poo' - really yellowy/stainy for the first day or so, but after that all settled down and clean and rarely a sight of a poo!
>>Friend says it reminds him of peanut butter
Eeeek - What kind of peanut butter do they eat?! Lol :-)
>> litter looked like they were doing 'curry poo'
Yes much more like it! Lol
I wiped aforementioned 'curry poo' all over my walls once whilst moving a piece of vet bed from the whelping box to the washing machine. Seriously, I couldn't have made more of a mess if I'd tried!!!

Thanks youv just put me off my dinner nearly choked
lol at lucymissy :-) A little goes a long way doesn't it? I'm not in the slightest bit squeemish about blood, gubbins and all the other delightful stuff that comes out of our four-legged friends but curry poo is the one thing that has me scrubbing with a stiff brush if I get it on my hands. It's 'orrible stuff.

Someone said it looks like there are bits of bird seed in there - that kind of consistancy

Human baby first poo is black

Not once they've started feeding.
Hi
OK we weighed them all last night and they have all put on weight 24 hours since last pup came out. Obviusly different amounts per do but ranged from 12% increase to 16% increase in just over 24hours.
That seems very positive to me and I have only seen yellow & slightly browny yellow poo since.
Hopefully all good :)
