s'ok, just looked it up x
How long can you keep it for un-opened? As I am tempted to get some now before it vanishes again.
LOL and me!!
It saved the life of two of my pups for sure.Would hate to be without it really if I had a pregnant bitch.

Ive snatched some up before it disappears!

What sort of date on it Diane?

Brilliant Yvonne, This has been passed on with huge thanks x

Thanks for that the lady I spoke to said it would be Nov. before they were expecting to get it back in.
Some places who had a supply wanted a prescription?
On FB they (Hyperdrug) say the batch that they have got hold of is only dated until July 2011
so 4 months

That's no good for me. Not due to go to stud until October.

Just had an e mail from Hyperdrug. Dopram V is NOT AVAILABLE and no supplies expected.

Can you guys tell me what dopram is used for, how and when to use it etc? I haven't seen it mentioned in the books on whelping I've been reading, but it sounds like lots of people consider it essential...?

It is used to revive pups who may have had a rough delivery and having problems breathing.
The pup must have a heart beat to circulate the drug around the body and secretions removed from airways.
A drop or 2 is put under the pups tongue and absorbed from there, effects are seen quickly.
Dopram V is a respiratory stimulant for puppies, kittens, calves and lambs . I consider it an essential part of whelping kit
Diane
Me too :)
If anyone hears of a new batch with a longer use by date let us know. I seem to remember having a bottle for at least a year and it was still in date when I looked.

Great, thanks. What are the signs that a pup is in enough trouble to need this? Am I just looking for difficulty breathing?
This batch will be out of date by the time our litter comes, so I'll also have to look out for more later.
They are easy to spot. Floppy and apparantly lifeless. You clear their mouths, rub them with a towel and still nothing happens. Its not so much difficulty breathing, as not breathing at all for me. I have known puppies that were to all intents and purposes born dead (obviously they weren't) given dopram v and a good towelling and recover. Its the loveliest sound when you hear the first in take of air. Give me a bottle of dopram and I never give up on a pup.

Wow, thanks. Does it go off easily, I mean sometimes use-by-dates don't mean that things don't work at all past that date - should I still get some of this stuff if it's on Hyperdrug, or should I wait and see if more comes available? We won't have the litter till the autumn...

Maybe keep an eye on some of the agricultural websites too, not just the pet ones as they do sell it when in stock also.

Yet my vet advises that you should
always get a gasp before using Dopram.

Well, I've ordered some from Hyperdrug. I'd rather have some which expired in July to use, than none at all!

I had a word with my father about this to see if he has ever used this on his cattle - (thinking ahead in case friends may need it if it gets pulled again) He said that he's never ever heard of it and has always used the method of straw on the calves or the 'kiss of life'..
Thanks, just ordered some Dopram V with another order.
I've been trying for weeks now, hope i don't get an email saying still out of stock, fingers crossed.

my dopram came in the post this morning so hope you all get yours

Mine arrived today aswell :)

I rang my vet about Dopram V and was told they weren't sure if they sold it to breeders as the vet who owns the practice wasn't there, she also told me they had no stock as they were having supply problems.
Hopefully mine will arrive tomorrow.

It says to store it in the fridge...

Says to store between +2C and +8C and use within 28 days of opening.and protect from light.

OMG! I've used it for donkeys years, and never once even noticed that it said to store in fridge!
I admit, once used, it is ditched, as it's pointless keeping it hanging around once it isn't airtight. But I would swear that I've seen it on the drug counters at the veterinary hospital. I don't recall seeing loads of bottles stored in the fridge. Perhaps it means once opened?
However, the fact remains that mine is stored in what I call a "safe" cupboard with phenobarb and anything I want kept out of harms way.
So, rabid, you CAN teach an old dog new tricks! :-)

welshie - I have thrown many an unopened bottle in the dustbin. But what price a pups life? I always hope that I don't need it, but I do like the security it gives, knowing that it's there. I don't feel that it's a waste of money.
How long is its (fridge) shelf life unopened?

Variable. It's worth checking when you order, exactly what use by date is on the box.
I have had one in stock, not needed when the bitch whelped, but a good enough date on it that it came in handy for my next litter. It does vary, depending on where you buy.
