Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can recommend any heat pads better than my current.
I was using a petnap one along with microwave ones which are good but need reheated quite often.
The petnap one has given up the ghost so need to order another.
Does anyone know of a better one?

used a metal heat pad for 12 years still the same one  we find if the pups are hot they can get off they pad they cannot get away from a lamp if trying to replace try googleing the canine chemists they sell both lamps and heat pads

I prefer the pads for the same reason as stated before,I could place it at one end of the bed, they can climb on and off the pad, sometimes Mum and all the pups were on the pad, pups were on the pad alone or no one was on the pad and the pups must have been warm enough as there was no puppy pile they were scattered around the bed.

I have rice Mummas too,popsocks[2 layers each] filled with rice which can be warmed in the microwave and used for emergency vet trips[touch wood never used], can be shaped around pups/Mum as required.

Which Petnap one do you have?  If it is the vinyl one, they don't last so well, but the alminium ones are great.  I wasted a lot of money on an overhead lamp, that just upset my bitch.  The metal Petnap, I would recommend to anyone, and are virtually indestructabel.

Is it the one at the top that you already have?

Because they do tend to get chewed.  Which can't be done with the one further down.

Metal Petnap is the right choice.  I have one 25 years old.  Effective and still going strong.
Lamps cause draughts as well as the other problem already mentioned.

I have a 4 week old litter. Only 2 puppies as sadly a difficult birth and some died. It is a large breed.
Previously I used a heat lamp always and I asked on here about the mats and used one this time. Was really nervous to start with as to be honest I was quite shocked at the size of the XL ( was expecting bigger). Anyway I left my lamp in situ as I felt sure I would need it but never switched it on. Much better for my Mum I think too.  ( we are in a centrally heated room and left heating overnight too for a while)
I have confidence now and would use the mat again.
Diane
PS I'm sure I used to cook my puppies and Mum with the lamp

How different is the metal one? I bought the vinyl one and it has finished up as good as when I bought it.
