Yesterday a friend nearly had her Cavalier stolen from her car through the window at a MacDonalds Drive tho'
A woman reached in and scruffed the puppy and attempted to pull her through the small gap whilst 2 men stood in front and behind the car trying to open the hatch back to find more dogs. All doors were locked and the gap too small to pull the pup through.
Meanwhile...in Dog world today Jane Lilley reports that a woman was driving down a busy street and stopped at traffic lights, her car dooor was opened and a woman grabbed her cavalier (!!!) and said " How much". The driver got the dog back, slammed the door and drove off.
First incident was in Berkshire but dont know the location of the second.
Be careful out there!
Dear God, thats scarey...I have a Cav and Id do anything to get her back if that happened...well any of the dogs I own!!!
Possibly people wanting to breed from them or just wanting to sell on and make fast money?. All our dogs are microchipped , but that doesnt guarantee that we would get them back though. I wouldnt stop looking.
Debs

That's why i never leave my dog out side shop's etc anyone could steel them!! Well i would like to see the try, i hope my boy would have enough sence to bark at them and give them a shock. Thats another reason why i refuse to muzzle my dogs, if one was to try and steel my dogs, how would they defend them selfs?

I always have my Africanis in the car with my flatcoats. If anyone approached the car she would be a serious problem as she was trained in Africa to guard property. Even though she has lived in the UK since she was about 5 years old she still guards everything and she does not always give a warning.
My daughter rescued her when Mozambique was flooded a few years back, hence I have her. So now I have to also worry that I could be in trouble if somebody tried to take my flatcoats if she decided to guard them and the car. In ordinary every day situations she is bomb proof and very docile but I imagine if I was worried or frightened by such an attempt I could not guarantee how she would react.

Where in Berkshire????
They were not even alone in the car for god's sake!!!

For goodness sake, don't these thieves watch PDE?! These dogs weren't worth taking!
Sorry could not resist!!
;)
That is very scary indeed. I never leave dogs alone in the car, but with people IN it? The thought had never even occurred to me.
I think anyone trying to grab my OH's BCon site would get more than they bargined for.
Even scarier is that if someone's dog defended themselves, they would then be branded as "aggressive" :(

That would be my concern with MAxie as I said earlier.

How awfull, I hope your friend & her puppy are over thier ordeal :(
When I lived in the midlands many moons ago, it was common practice at traffic lights which were on red for the local 'hoods' to open a car door, grab the handbag/briefcase on the front seat and leg it. All in broad day light. Obviously no scruples there so I've never left my dogs in a car with a door unlocked even when I'm sat in the car with them.
Thats disgusting. :(
Its okay I think if anyone tried to steal my dogs they would lose their hand haha. And if anyone tried to steal my cavalier...well they would need a pretty big gap.
Its just vile how far people will go...
