If you like smaller breeds, and a less spirited dog a good alternative might be the french Bulldog. I just happen to have a soft spot for them, is all :D

I got your second mail, Mick, thank you (have you got the reply??).
I agree with Mr. Murphy when it comes to the temperament of the APBT. They are not a dog for everyone but unfortunately often attract the wrong type of people. But all the dogs with a fighting backround who ended up in the pound and subsequently at my sanctuary were NOT human aggressive.
Dog fights still go on, and the BSL in germany for example changed only one thing: the types of breeds used for fighting. :(

Hi everyone, for all those who think pit bulls are evil, check out this site:
www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/sadreality.html
Some pretty gruesome pictures, but I think it shows what this breed has had to endure.

Jesus- what b******s!!
please excuse my language . How can anyone be so utterly evil and CRUEL is just beyond belief . I am sick of people who treat animals like this and get away with " crap " fines . Why are they not punished properly . Is it because they are pitbulls and therefore not as cute as say a spaniel ??? What a horrible sight/site or should i say , its not the site as it is only giving us the truth of the evilness of some "people" ( if they can be called that !!!)

Just had a mesage on my breed email list, that one of the rescue foster carers had had his dog shot dead by the next door neighbour. the dog had squeezed under the fence. the culprit said it had attacked him!
This an older rescue dog, eith no aggressive tendencies, and who are normally voacl if excited or aroused, and not a sound heard by the dogs owner until the shot!
I am sure there are exceptions as in all breeds, but elkhounds do not go around attacking people, even their hunting style is to keep an animal at bay by circling and barking, not actually attacking.

That is absolutely tragic, Barbara :( :( :( I'm so sorry for that puir dog :( :( :(
I do think that much of the "public" forget that there are people out there who just plain don't like or actually hate dogs. They will go out of their way to cause trouble. They will grab at any excuse to discriminate, spout lies and fables, and to spread rumours. They do it rather sneakily and many don't recognize the bs as it's coming out since it's hidden under a face of caring or reassurance.
For a bit, it's been about APBT and bull/terrier breeds. Yep, they take a certain owner ...but any breed does. There's no breed out there that is perfect for every person. I just couldn't imagine owning and appreciating a Malamute. Nice dogs...but not for my personality and household...same with a lab or peke...just not my ideal. I like terriers and sighthounds..we suit, for some odd reason. Other people suit other breeds. I will not condemn ANYONE for the breed that suits them as long as they are a responsible owner.
Since APBT's are banned in UK and have become this 'ghost' dog blamed for much (no one knows what one looks like)... where are the dog haters turning next? What's the trend? Pay attention to rumblings... it could be anyone's breed that's threatened next under the guise of 'public safety'. :(
Yes, there are stupid people out there who should not own dogs. Unfortunately, the relatively small percentage of bad owners will affect the entire dog owning population :( :(
anyway, end of rant now. I'm just really ticked off about what happened to that puir rescue dog. The ijiot probably thought he was seeing some wolf  :( :( Good thing it wasn't his kid coming under the fence. Trigger happy a**h**e :( :(

My reply to Gina, or should my Alzheimer Light have turned into a more severe form :D?
>>Hi Gina, there are many BSL in many different countries, not just for the APBT. In Germany for example the breeding and import of SBT is also illegal. And no, I am not from GB and yes, I own several APBT and other bull breeds (even a BC, a Lurcher and a GH *psssst*) :D.
I'm still human though and love my breed like everybody else theirs. :D I do not keep them for my macho image, nor is my occupation a red lighted one :D. They are great fun and I just love to watch them. Haaaa, don't get me started ;).
Taylor<<

Maybe you did what I have done in the past ...instead of pressing POST ...I have ( in a senior moment) just pressed back and actually forgotten to post it :D
I say nothing about your Alzheimer Light ;)

Hi ya Dopey :) - it is on page 1 - just going to reply to it :D
All I was going to say was I love all dogs and am getting over my fear of being near strange large ones. So glad I got my two little uns - allows me to meet lots of others on the walks and I even stroked a bull mastiff the other day :)
I dont think I have ever run a dog down only the silly owners.

Mea culpa, Gina, don't worry, I got the hang of it now :D.
I have had quite a few visitors here without any bull breed experience and after a day or two it worked just fine. i have one volunteer at present and she was used to cattle and sheep dogs. At first she was wary, now she has no prob to take them for a walk. She did say that she was negatively influenced by the media and that she wouldn't be ready to keep a bull breed yet. But she is learning fast and she keeps returning to the sanctuary even though after the first day I thought I would never see her again :D.

A friend of ours has a Staff. X, she's a beautiful dog, she's got a brilliant temperament and I dont' have any worries when my children are around her.
Lisa

Thankgod they are not illegal here. They are very beautiful dogs. I prefer dogs that are not real furry. I like the coats on the pits, corso, pressa, ect. Boston Terriers were originally bred for dog fights, but they were much bigger back then. I truly believe it's the people is why these or any dog gets a bad name. But I think u r more likely to be bitten by a smaller dog then a big one, just my opinion.

Hehe, in my rescue work I have been attacked quite frequently by JRT :) and once mauled by a Labrador :(.
My postman comes to the door, regardless whether or not some of my dogs are out. He got bitten only once: by Francis, my donkey :D.
Taylor

Ur Donkey lol

Yeah, Francis was in the field next to the drive way. The postman got out and dropped a letter. When he bent down to pick it up, he stuck his bum right into the donkeys face :D. Advice from the postman: "Change the sign at the gate, cross out *dogs* and put in F**** Mule" :D :D
