Our Standard Schnauzer was diagnosed with arthritis about 1 year ago.  She was examined by a very good surgeon and he x-rayed her leg (front) and said she had very bad arthritis around her elbow.  He kept her in and washed out her elbow as he actually discovered that she had an infection of her joint fluid. He was very hopefuly that she would be cured after doing this but unfortunately she was still lame.  I have been giving her Flexi Joint tablets from Vet Vits but they really dont seem to be working.  I just wondered if anyone on here has a dog with arthritis and what works for them.  Any recommendations?

A few things are making my pyrenean's life with arthritis easier:

Liquid glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM supplement from Holland and Barrett (liquid supplements often work better).
Green Lipped Mussle
Devil's Claw
Salmon Oil

Monthly McTimoney chiropractic treatment
Acupuncture

Bioflow Magnetic Collar

You could also try hydrotherapy which is excellent too.

Hi Vera
I have only just come across this web site so forgive me for replying to an old post of yours.
I have a Japanese Akita who is 10 yrs old, he has been suffering with Aurtheritus for a year or two and we have tried everything that the vet has perscribed.
Acupunture did not help nor has matacam, rimadyl plus many others.
As of this morning we are trying PLT tablets 2 x twice daily for 5 days then reducing it to 1 twice daily to see if they help. I have also purchased  Liquid glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM supplement from Holland & Barrett the same as you. However, i'm unsure what dose to give him and was hoping you could advise me from your own experiance. he weighs 45 kilos (i did however give him 15ml this morning)  as that what it says on the back of the bottle.

Any advise is really appreciated

Regards
Sarah & Tao
