Hi Everyone
I have mated my giant breed again for the third time (she was 4 xmas day )
but when i have been googling info it always changes When sickness may start
when nipples will get larger These go from week 2 till week 6 on diffrent sites
i am confused She will be 4 weeks from mating on Thursday so she is 25 days
I am seeing no real sighns  Slightly longer nipples but some sites say she should of lost belly hair on 3 to 4 week others say thats not till week 7 I give up any help or info very welcome xx

The info varies because bitches vary, Sophie was a very fit bitch so didn't show until right at the end of her pregnancy, Id just treat her as if she were pregnant for now then if you are desperate to know get her scanned at the vets. Bitches that have been bred before tend to show earlier, at only 4 weeks I doubt unless you have seen many bitches in whelp you could distinguish if she was, but in about 2 weeks you will know for definite.

Good luck Triona

Good luck with the scan, remember they might not be visable yet to see.

mine didn't follow whats said either.  She was sick about two weeks in and only for one day, she was even eating in the mornings, just a little later thats all.  it took ages for her nipples to look any different and i've had to shave her belly as she didn't lose any either.  I have days to go if that.

There are two good sites that i use to look at for stages,

http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/whelping.htm

I'll try and put the other one up later.  They explain very well and reasure you.

we waited until almost day 40 to scan as they can reabsorb. It killed me waiting!
We noticed lots of character changes long before any physical signs - she became more friendly with our bitch, yet our neutered male was not allowed in the living room!

I find it interesting, the difference in scan times. Some people can't wait, so take for scan on day 30 & some wait till day 40 or later. Some don't scan at all. Others wait & have an xray in week 7 as bones have calcified. I've never scanned, but this time I'm anxious to know one way or another. My vet suggested day 28, but I can't convince myself that I should even go! The word 'reabsorb' keeps popping into my head as I've heard of bitches who've been scanned at 4 weeks & confirmed as being in whelp, only to return 2 weeks later & there are no puppies. We're on days 21/23, so I have a few days to make up my mind...but I'll probably take up knitting, just to keep my mind occupied :)

Hiya x
As you know i have the same breed as you , Callie did not really show many signs and believe me i was on nipple watch every day .

Really not many changes at all , i guess her nipples were slightly darker ( deeper pink ) and i did notice on a couple of dsays she would not eat 1st thing in the morning , those days she wanted her food nearer lunch time lol

Had her scanned 30 days post mate and 2 pups were visable .... so your girl may not show any signs especially being the build that they are .

Good luck for Wednesday xxx

Forgot to say her lady bits also stayed slightly more swollen after her season ended ... don't know if thats any help lol

I have always found the above to be a very accurate diagnostic tool for pregnancy in my girls.

Hi Finlay,
I had one of my girls scanned from a previous litter on day 29 scan showed two but she only went on to have one
so other had reabsorbed.
I know the scans are never that accurate so now just use them to confirm whether in whelp or not,I never look for numbers
it's really just so we can plan ahead for enough time off work between me an my hubby.
I guess by the five week mark you would know anyway but I get impatient.
Good luck.x
