- By chelzeagirl [gb] Date 14.03.11 11:27 UTC
Hi all,
right i been using a bog standard Bob Martin shampoo,

and well after watching the wonderful coats on the crufts dogs this weekend i would like to know what really good shampoo i can use on my 3 mucky pooches,

i have 2 white Bullys and a Rottie and i want to make them Gleam ;-),

any advice please i'd be so grateful
thanks,

You could try some of the colour specific ranges, there are several companies that offer white specific and black specific shampoos. I use Mink Oil shampoo from Simpsons on my Cavalier, makes both the white and black patches gleam!

What do you feed your dogs CG?

Mink Oil is brilliant on short coats. I'd buy a good decent shampoo from HUB or somewhere like that after speaking to them about what you wish to achieve.

we buy our feed from Brambledown farm shop in Kent its their own brand and a complete its 15kg for £9.99. we also mix some raw chicken or tripe for the bullys, but zeus (rottie wont eat raw he likes it cooked fuss pot)
when i cant get to the farm shop (which is not very often) its the supermarkets own brand complete,

they do have good coats i just want them to shine a bit more , iv got my wahl dog clippers out today as i want to trim my Rottie up a bit he has quite alot of fur thats curling a bit round his neck top of his back so this could be trimmed smooth, and of course his back of legs need a little trim,

want to spring clean the house this week so thought it would make sense to spring clean the dogs first :-)

so  Sue is H.U.B the hub international web site im looking at, (not sure if i can post link here)
anyway the prices look very reasonable and i have no problem buying online , think i'll get better deal online anyway shops round here are a rip off,

can anyone pm me links to good web site i could use plz, or post here if thats ok,

I can only speak for bull terriers as they can be sensitive. We use a hypoallergenic shampoo that doesn't alter the softness of the coat as bulls should have a slightly harsh touch to their coats as well.
We like Pet Head Fears for Tears Tearless Shampoo and Quistel.

These are the 2 I use in the main for grooming goods. However when its everyday bathing then just a normal black shampoo from PAH is all I use.

thanks King yes i must say been Extremely luck with my 2 bullys (touch wood nothing changes) they seem to be the only bullys i know of from friends who have them also that have no skin problems,
but saying that i wouldn't want to use anything that could start one so will be extra careful when getting the bulls one, will google yours thanks

I use Plush puppy white shampoo and pethead as a mix. :)

Another vote for Quistel; and Doreen Paige :)

You might want to consider whether something like the Shine On coat is appropriate for your breed:

Re PAH shampoos. I use Shed Control Shampoo and think its fantastic.
My youngster who is 2 years old has not dropped her coat and I am always getting asked what shampoo I use.
Dont know whether its coincindence, but I am sticking with it.!

For my Rottie's (which I show) I use a shampoo from Plush Puppies, it is basically for short coats and it makes them shine really nicely.  I personally wouldn't trim a Rottie's coat...maybe the feathers if they were particularly long but i've never had to trim one of mine.

Thanks staff im not up on all the lingo but if feathers are the bits that stick out down the back of his hind legs , and the wifty bits sticking up above his collar on his back of neck, then thats the bits im clipping his are rather long at moment ,  i did it last year and it was so much better he was more smoother and coat much easier to brush,

I have been using mink oil shampoo for the Collies and the Chi's.

4th one down here.  My original order I got by ordering online, but this year I restocked at Cruft's.  I use their conditioner too.

Is Mink Oil from actual mink, farmed mink, or is it just a name?
- By Wobbliebob [gb] Date 15.03.11 13:08 UTC

- By toffeecrisp [gb] Date 15.03.11 17:15 UTC
dogsababe, I read somewhere that it is actually the oil from the mink thats used!

Has anyone used the new Pet Head shampoo..its made by the Bed Head people?
Just wondered what it was like...our vet sells  and it does smell lovely
- By bluemerlemum [gb] Date 15.03.11 18:24 UTC

Hmm, I'm generally quite pragmatic but I couldn't square this with my conscience.  I'm sure there are other options and I'd rather work from the inside out with nutrition first...
