Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / When to introduce other dogs to pups?

Hi All.

My bitch had her pups friday.

I have 5 toy breed dogs, 3 which I show and 2 are just pets. My other dogs know something is going on upstairs but cant get up there, they sit at the stair gate listening lol

When should I introduce them to the pups, should I wait till they have opened their eyes and are moving about a bit? I was going to bring them all downstairs when their eyes are open anyway, should I wait till then?

I think my bitch that had the pups is missing the other dogs company aswel, shes soo happy to see them all when she comes down for food and toilet etc.

I would not allow other dog anywhere near the pups until their eyes are open at least.

Two weeks used to be when I brought my pups downstairs when I used to whelp in the bedroom.

Having more recently had a Mum that was not Happy with others around her babies at two weeks I now move them into the kitchen where the other dogs come and go at three weeks, but I now whelp my girls in the Living room (since kids grew up and left home), and don't allow the other dogs in while pups under three weeks.

Thanks for your reply, I will wait till they have at least opened their eyes and ill only go on mums reaction. Like your bitch, if shes not happy ill leave it longer.

Thanks again
