Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Anyone breed/show PJRT??

I have a really well made smooth bitch but she does have a large amount of black spots on her coat (she is tricolour)

I was wondering is it worth showing her or will this automatically discount her from any placings? I also wondered if it is possible to breed out these spots (with the right dog obviously) in a generation and is it possible to know whether a puppy will have spots at a young age as she was 'spot free' until about 4-5 months old.

We are new to this breed so would appreciate any help or advise. I am aware the smooths arent really shown a lot but they are my preference

Thanks for all replies.

Hi, they are PRT (no jack) and they should be predominately white with black or tan on head and base of tail. If your bitch has only a small amount of colour on her body and is otherwise a good example it should not stop you having some fun with her in the show ring, I take it she is KC registered.

Here is what the standard says about colour:-

White or predominantly white with tan, lemon or black markings, or any combination of these colours. The colour preferably confined to the head and/or root of tail, but a little body colour is acceptable.

There are some PRT's with spots on their coats that are quite successful in the show ring. I would rather have a dog with spots than a deaf dogs, or dogs with liver noses. Same goes for the coats, I would rather have a good quality smooth, the kind that is almost impervious to water, than a rough lacking undercoat. If she has good conformation, the spots and the fact that she is a smooth should not detract a judge from placing her.
