Topic Other Boards / Foo / Internet Explorer V6 - Your days are numbered !!!!
- By MarkR Date 13.03.11 13:29 UTC
Microsoft has launched a countdown clock for Internet Explorer V6.

http://www.ie6countdown.com/

Their goal is to reduce the number of people using IE V6 to less than 1% by the end of 2011.

So if you are one of the 5% of Champdogs Members who can see the warning message at the bottom of the screen just click on it and upgrade today !

Pah!  I'm a Mozarella girl ;) (as hubby will insist on calling Mozilla FF!).

Me too, though when I installed it on mother's computer, she pulled a face and asked: "Who is Mozilla Firefox?"
- By Nova Date 13.03.11 13:58 UTC
Me too MF - don't think my IE works any more went into a sulk when I uploaded Firefox.
- By Ailsa [gb] Date 13.03.11 18:10 UTC
Mozilla firefox used here too. IE crashed every time I opened facebook so gave up on it.

I'm using IE8 (spit, it's horrible) and yet I get the warning message.
- By Ailsa [gb] Date 13.03.11 19:09 UTC Edited 13.03.11 19:11 UTC
I have opened my IE and checked what version I am have. It is IE8 but I can still see the message at the bottom so I think it is just another advert or a con. Also I think what browser you can have depends on what operating system you are running.
- By Daisy [gb] Date 13.03.11 19:14 UTC
I've got IE8 - but no message ??????? Strange
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 13.03.11 19:45 UTC
Not even when you scroll right down? How odd.
- By Daisy [gb] Date 13.03.11 19:48 UTC
Where does it show - right at the bottom - under "Powered by mwForum 2.12.1 © 1999-2007 Markus Wichitill" ???? :)

I'm running Vista - what about you ?

No, just above that - a big bright orange bar - you can't possibly miss it so if you can't see it then you haven't got it. I'm running XP - perhaps that's the difference.

You will also see the warning message if you are using IE8 in compatibility view. To turn compatibility mode off use the tools dropdown menu. The forum will work fine in native IE8 mode.

Check to see which version of IE (Internet Explorer) you have:

Find 'Help' on the toolbar towards the top of the page - click on it, then find 'About Internet Explorer'. This will tell you which version of IE you have. If it is IE6, then you are going to have a problem as Mark has explained !
- By Merlot [hu] Date 14.03.11 12:09 UTC
I seem to have upgraded now to version 8 ? but can still see the orange bar, does that mean I may loose CD ??
- By Daisy [gb] Date 14.03.11 12:12 UTC Edited 14.03.11 12:14 UTC
No - but try Mark's tip about the compatability view (I don't know if it works as I can't see it :) the orange bar, that is )
- By Daisy [gb] Date 14.03.11 12:14 UTC
Just turned the compatability view on - I saw the bar - then turned it off quickly :) :) :)
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 14.03.11 12:14 UTC
I'm concerned that changing the compatibility view might mean I lose other things. (Computer numpty here!)
- By Daisy [gb] Date 14.03.11 12:15 UTC
Doubt it :) I don't think I have been missing anything .................................................................. (no comment please ...........;) )
- By Merlot [hu] Date 14.03.11 12:26 UTC
Yipee done it... no orange bar
Aileen
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 14.03.11 12:49 UTC
Well, I've done it and the bar's gone ... let's see if it's affected anything else. (I'll know where to come! ;-))
- By Harley Date 14.03.11 16:31 UTC
Mine is version 7 - thanks Daisy for telling me how to check which version I have - and I get the warning too but assume 7 is okay for now?
- By Butler 1 [gb] Date 17.03.11 09:26 UTC
Or er my son came last night I told him about the warning so he will fix it, he works at as web designer!!! well I had nothing at all *panic stations* and off he went!! Thank god for my husband getting it sorted ..still have the warning though. XXfor Mr Philip
- By rachelsetters Date 18.03.11 15:39 UTC
going to sound bit dim - sorry!! but ok where is compatibility mode??  I can't see it on my tools menu?
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 18.03.11 18:29 UTC
At the top of the screen can you see a 'Refresh' icon with a red X to the right and what looks like a torn piece of paper on the left? That torn-paper icon is the compatability view; click it and you should be sorted.
- By rachelsetters Date 18.03.11 18:48 UTC
Thanks Jan - sorted :)
