Hi Guys,

This is my first post on here so Hi!!!!

I have two bulldogs, Boris and Beau.

Boris is 20 weeks old, full of the joys of Spring and i bought him from a very reputable breeder.

Beau will be 2 in May, and unfortunately hasnt had a very good start in life. I am her 3rd owner in her very short life so far, and she is an old lady already in a young dogs body.

She was very malnourished, and very underweight, when i got her 6 weeks ago, so with the advice of breeders and experienced bully owners we have been trying to get her back on track...

but

Over the past 2 weeks i have noticed her moulting, which, as you know isnt abnormal, but she is moulting SO much i can see the skin through her fur now. The skin looks a little dry, so i have bathed her with oatmeal but doesnt seem to be improving.

Now not knowing her full history bless her, i dont know if she has had anything like this before, but i am wondering if she could have a very mild form of Mange?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks.

The first thing that comes to mind is thyroid.  How regular is the pattern of moulting?  Is it all over, or random patches?

Thyroid tends to be symmetrical, usually the flanks and backs of thighs but it can be anywhere; mange tends to be random patches of hair where the mites are spreading within the hair follicles.

It could maybe be a leftover of being manourished, I'd have a vet check either way (thyroid is done by blood test, just to make you aware).

Thanks Nikita!

Well, initially i thought it was where her harness might of been rubbing her, but ive kept her harness off now for about 3 weeks, and it has still continued! so its straight between her shoulder blades and almost patchy... and then on her spine towards her bum!

I have to add, her bones were VERY prominent and her spine still sticks out quite badly.
