Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Rules for showing under certain judges

I have a few questions....I have a litter at the moment and intend to keep a bitch puppy(ifone good enough) to be able to show.
The stud dog owner will be having a look at the girls at 6 and 8 weeks to help me choose the best. Once this pup is 6 months old I would like to enter her into a certain show close to me but I have just realised that the stud dog owner is judging bitches. Its a champ show and I dont think Im able to enter, is that right?
I was once told at another show training class with another bitch that one of the handlers couldnt go over her becuase she was entered at darlington within 6 months under that certain handler as the judge.
Is this right? So in other words because the stud dog owner will be helping me choose my pup and will have gone over her at 2 months of age I then cant enter her under her at 6 months of age???

Also are there any rules or is it frowned upon to enter under a judge that owns the sire of your dog?
I would never enter under the breeder of my dog for obvious reasons, but is it the same with the sires owner?
I hope all of that made sense lol

In general you can enter under the owner of your litter's sire, I wouldn't have thought that just looking at the litter at 8 weeks would matter. You can't be judged by someone who's handled your dog at a show within a certain time, but again I'm not sure a show training class really counts. But I must admit my friend goes on and on (and on and on) about people who win under the judge whose dog sired the dog they showed, so possibly it's frowned on?

There are no rules about showing under the stud dog owner. You can't show under the breeder or anyone who has handled or groomed or housed your dog in the last 12 months. There is no reason in the rules why someone who who helps you chose a pup or goes over a pup in private can't be shown under.

BUT - you are being unfair on the stud owner if you enter under them at such a early stage they will be dammed if they place you and uncomfortable if they don't - my advice would be to leave it this time but it should be OK at her/his next appointment.

Hi Thanks :-) I did think that Nova...I would be very worried if someone showed under me and I owned the sire. Especially since this pup will only be 6 months 2 days old!!
Ok will leave it this time and try the other 2 the weeks after it in sept :-)

Ohhh Im so excited :-) I really hope theres something nice here for me.

Over the years Ive seen the popular stud dog syndrome at work..... the fall out of this is that, often a great number of dogs being shown that year will be by a certain stud dog.

If they ALL stayed away...the entry would be severely depleted.

We just ahve to get used to seeing exhibitors judging exhibitors....just the way it is.

I agree in general tooolz but as this stud owner and the exhibitor seem close I think that to show under them this year will put the stud owner in an impossible place. If they place the pup others will be unhappy and if they don't the exhibitor may feel hurt and perhaps think they have been encouraged to keep a less than good pup.

In the end it is between the two of them if the judge does not mind and the breeder is happy to be chucked then it is not against the rules to show this pup under this judge.

I still think Ill leave it this time around...I also want to know my pup won becuase she deserves it rather than someone feeling like they had to place her or feeling very uncomfortable. I also did work fir this particular for a while looking after her dogs, was around 10 yrs ago but still...

There'll be plenty more shows to enter :-)
