Does anyone have this?
https://www.kcinsurance.co.ukI'm trying to work out whether it would be worth it or not...
It would cost us £50/mnth, and we would have to take it out 3 months before pregnancy right through till pups leave, so total cost would be £450 (for 8/9 mnths).
They won't cover Premate/progesterone tests or ultrasound scanning to determine pregnancy - they will only cover 'stuff which goes wrong', so to speak.
They will only cover stuff which goes wrong with whelping/pregnancy up to a max of £1K. (Bear in mind we'd have paid £450 to them, plus then £65 per condition excess.)
It just doesn't seem worth it, but I wondered if anyone else had looked into it and what conclusions they'd reached? Thanks.
I haven't spent £450 in 25 years of breeding but ....................... your knowledge, the lines that you're dealing with etc
I am in the same boat. We are due to go to stud in October and I need to decide.

I assume they would pay for emergency out of hours section?
It would be worth it for the one I had out of hours that cost me £1,086 for a Caesarian!

Yes Jean, they would pay for that. The only prob is that you've already paid £450 towards it (if you go with this insurance), plus £65 (excess). So already paid £515 towards it, really. As the max they will pay out is £1K (total for breeding issues - gestation and whelping - not per condition), the max we could hope to get from them would then be about £500. So, if you have £500 in the bank, not sure if it is worth it!
They will also pay £500 per puppy, for the time it is with you. That doesn't come out of the £1K for whelping etc.
Bluemerlemum, if you go to stud in October you probably have some time still to decide, as you don't have to have taken it out will 12 weeks before you claim for breeding related issues - so 12 wks before you go to stud. For us this would be April, as we go in the summer...
I wouldnt say it was worth it, plus will they need you to phone them before you take her for an emergency ceaser? More important things to concentrate on, plus the money you dont spend on insurance can go into a pot. Fingers crossed you wont need it but its there just incase. There bound to be some exclusion clauses in the small print, does breed matter? they could turn round and say the breed is prone to c-sections and not pay out!
Are there any other companys that do breeders insurance? Or just hte kennel club?
i was thinking about it but glad i didnt even tho we ended up paying £1300 at the vets with everything that went wrong with mist ,i did put £600 away but luckly our vet was very good and waited a month for the rest of the money, we lived on beans and toast that month LOL so if i was going to breed again (which im not) the heart ache and worry we went though when we could of lost mist! was just to much,....id make sure id got at least 1000 in the bank its there if needed!!

I also looked into this and it was going to be around £60 per month for my girl. We did have problems after the whelping as most of you know and overall in 48 hours and 3 vets visits its cost us £310 for Tiegan's problems. I chose not to insure her becuase it wouldn't be worth it and risked having to pull the money out of my pocket. Even with all of the problems we have had and the money I have pulled out for her we still are better off without the insurance, if I had insured her I would have been even more out of pocket.
I think its pretty bad that they will only cover £1000 for whelping costs when they charge so much per month. Of course I may still have to pay for problems in the puppies, you just never know but I still think I was better off not insuring her.
I dont know of any others that do insurance, I would definately like to know about them if there is but I do think it's just the KC.

I personally dont think its worth it.If your going to be paying out that amount for the short time your using them, its definatly not worth it.Put the £500 odd you'd be paying them into a savers pot and when all goes well for your girl use it to pamper her and you after all the hard work.
BUT should you need a c section or an emergency vet for 'something during birth' as its not always c sections straight up...its there and softens the blow...no??
Maybe its just me being a paranoid ol' moo but i always have money aside incase anything goes wrong in the house or with a car ect so when my bitch needed a c section last year the last thing on my mind was i money, cos its always there....'just incase'.
but you know if its your choice,i just think if you thought it was a good dea you'd need not ask ;-)xxx

Petplan do it, but it was pretty much the same conditions. I looked into it a few months back but decided it wasn't worth it. I would put aside the £50 per month into a separate acc't rather than paying them. I 'do' believe in insurance, but this just didn't make fiscal sense as at the most you'd only save £500.

Another point, you could take out the insurance and then your girl misses..
I have had breeders insurance now for over a year I have a giant breed girl and i pay £42 a month But i was told it was changing i get £10000 of cover I cant beleive it has gone down so much and they are charging you more x
I double checked it and its now around £50 to cover my small/medium breed bitch for £1000 for whelping problems. I feel thats not really enough.
Anyone got any other insurance company's out there that do breeders insurance?

I agree, we've decided it's not worth it either.
When i took this out with kc i could not find another that took pregnancy into account I am so glad i took mine out before it all changed x
