OK so my puppies go with quite an extensive booklet created by me to give them as much help and advice possible. I am in the process of checking all of this over and putting my booklets together and was wondering if you would put something in yours that I may have missed in mine.
So far, it is around 30 a4 pages long :-s I am a little worried that they may not read it but then it is there should they ever need to refer to it for some reason or other, plus I am always on the end of the phone. I feel much better knowing I did my best to send them home with the best possible advice, also all reward based rather than punishment and negative training.
So this is what Ive covered:Housetraining, socialistion, feeding, exercising, mental stimulation, basic training(sit, down, stay, recall, no jumping), indoor kennel training, healthcare (fleas, worms, vaccs), hip, eye, elbow certs for bothparents. Pics of mum and dad and group pic of litter, puppy sales contract, will also be kc reg cert and tattoo and microchip paperwork in there along with anything I get in the puppy pack from RC.
Have I missed anything???
Thanks
Amy
BTW puppies and mum are doing fantastic. Tiegans discharge has completely gone back to what it should be and there is very little of it anyway. She is eating well, however, pating an awful lot day and night...Im putting this down to discomfort due to contracting back down also maybe a little hot? They are 1 weeks old today and in 7 days had doubled their bitch weight. Im so pleased with them. Im pretty tired, If Im downstairs in living room on couch near whelping box Tiegan keeps me awake either snoring her head off, like last night or panting all night long and if Im upstairs our son is poorly so has us up during the night lol....cant win either way :-) We will do these things wont we lol.
Ive fallen in love with all 3 girlies and unless there is one in particular that is outstanding compared to the other 2 Its going to break my heart chosing between them :-(
ETA That was meant to say birth weight not bitch weight lmao, lack of sleep, sorry lol
> I am a little worried that they may not read it
I do a guide too although not as long as yours, which sounds excellent by the way. What I did was give people a copy of the guide when they came for the last visit before picking their puppy up, so they could read it when they had plenty of time. I thought that they might not get round to reading it on the day when they took puppy home as too much else to think about. I also gave them another copy with all the other paper work just in case they had mislaid the previous copy.

Grooming? Not sure what breed you have, but I include grooming advice in mine.
I'm putting pics in as well.
Sounds good so far.Have you put suitable chew toys/hide sticks. Games to play with them to help training and learning. Can't think of anything else. What you have sounds good.

Sounds great to me as a prospective puppy owner. I would read it cover to cover but then I am like that

I know we would read it but new owners who are only interested in thier new pup rarely I think sit and read what info you give them.
I give a puppy pack with a guide to the breed ie: feeding, worming, training, grooming, general common sense eg: always have water available , crate training and advantages of a crate.Website that may be of interest.
But mainly I make it plain that I am always at the end of the phone anytime for any help . Mine consists of two pages ,with the pedigree and KC papers and a cd of video from birth to leaving.

I plan to recommend several good reward-based training classes in their area & to email them about these before they have even brought puppy home, so they can go and watch classes and book a place way in advance.

Agree with helensdogz. I found that giving my extensive information pack on the day that pup leaves home just doesn't work. Who wants to read when they have a new puppy to love?
A couple of years ago I decided to try giving the pack out when folk came to choose their pup. It was after reading a post from Carrington - so I stole someone else's idea! I usually make a comment that goes along the lines of - I will be testing you on the information pack later! (I don't really test people!) but I do say that if they haven't got time to read it before puppy arrives, then they certainly don't have time for a puppy!
having bought my new baby 14 weeks ago a booklet like that would be ideal, my breeder gave me extensive info but not as much as i have googled in the last 14 weeks!! i'd say the more info the better especially if each section is clearly labelled. I had a very poorly baby at the age of 12 weeks, diorreah and sickness, some info on health and what to do in certain circumstances would be good, all the usual worming, flea treatments etc, i have clicked reply on someone elses reply so cant actually remember what you did put in it hahaha also i have been looking up natural remedies ie thornits powder, athletes foot powder, hibiscrub etc for minor ailments, if you have experience with this then that might be a good idea too with a list of suppliers for the more difficult to get stuff :D

I've just had my accredited breeders visit ( yes they do do them ! ) - Bill Lambert came out and had a good look at all the paper work including my puppy brochure, contract and sales reciept - he suggested that I add more breed specific information ( history of the breed, characteristics , and breed specific excercise needs ) I do have all this stuff on my website and always direct puppy buyes to this but did not include it in my brochure.
It's a difficult one because you don't want to bombard puppy buyers with too much 'bumf' - personaly I think websites are easier to dip in and out of and we are of course always available at the end of the phone or e-mail for support - it might be interesting if we shared links here so that we could compare the kind of information we're providing
here's mine :
http://www.simplesite.com/grondemon/25407905I included loads on training and socialising in mine because my breed needs this - perhaps too much on this aspect -?

Thats great everyone...thanks so much, I will include a little more on grooming but I did have a small amount. I also have just become an AB so think I might add a bit more specific to the breed too, characteristics etc. as Trevor said.
Thats a great idea about giving them before the puppy. They are all coming at 4 weeks to view the litter and get to know us all better, I wil hand these out then and like Jean said I will tell them that they dont have the time for a pup if they dont have time to read it :-)
I would like to put a little about a poorly dog. ie. sickness and diarhorrea but I would be frightened that my literature stopped them contacting a vet when the dog needed it. I would hope common sense would tell them when their pup just had a dicky tummy due to change of food etc. or it was really poorly but you just never know.
I also plan to send another copy with them when they take pup home, like someone else said, incase they misplace the 1st one.
I think the thing with websites is you only read them when youve got chance to go on the net. For instance, most of my reading is done at 10-11pm once I am in bed. With my little one I only try to come on here when hes asleep because otherwise I need eyes in the back of my head and I cant concentrate on him properly (he's currently drawing on the whelping box with a blunt pencil lol) Once he is in bed thats when I read...that was when I went through the book of the bitch every night (and still am) and Im also reading the perfect puppy by gwen bailey (its been 4.5 yrs since we owned a pup and its a bit different knowing what to do and putting it into practice lol. I would never go on the net at 11pm if I was relaxing in bed....I would end up browsing dog sites and admiring dogs in my breed and would still be on at 2am lol.
This is great everyone, thanks very much, hopefully its given some other people ideas aswell...Ive already shared my booklet with a few people on here after posting this :-)
