Hi guys
I met a toy poodle breederthe other week who said from a week old they completely shave off the pups coat to the skin every week till the pup is six months old to improve the coat when it comes through? Has anyone heard of this before as I was quite shocked. They also breed welsh terriers and said thy do the same with them pups but completely handstrip the pups bare?

I know a toy poodle breeder and she gives her pups their first bath at 8 weeks and clips their faces and feet.

Faces and feet should have had their first clip by the time the pup leaves for its new home, not the rest of the pup!
That's what I thought but they insisted shavin it all off improves the coat

Many of these tales are utter nonsense.
You could meet a man in a bar who tells you that show Labradors are really Rottweillers without the tan..... Ive heard that one :-)
Doesnt make it a fact of life, just someones crazy opinion.
My wise mother always says
" consider the source".

That's a new one on me, not that I'm a poodle expert - perhaps it just saves them bothering to brush the puppy fluff until the adult coat comes through!!

Never heard of that - I always thought that you never shaved a poodle for the first year as it affects the coat.
I have heard of people cutting a coat right back on a puppy with the idea that it will grow back thicker. But that wasn't in Poodles, and not as young as one week old!
