I have an 18-month old cocker bitch who has had bad breath for about the last 10 months. It seemed to start after we had to treat her for a giardia problem. The vet prescribed the usual antibiotic and it cleared up the giardia problem. Her stools can also be a little loose if she doesn't get a tablespoon of pumpkin in her food everyday. There are no dental issues or foreign object lodged in her mouth and we regularly clean the folds around her mouth. She also gets a daily dose of probiotics. I'm wondering if the antibiotic treatment, especially at an early age, has disrupted or upset her intestinal system. Any thoughts on what might be causing this?

Did you change he food around the time the bad breath started ?

No, she's been on the same food (Origen). The food question reminded me of one other piece of information- she has a grain allergy or intolerance which we are able to deal with fairly well with non-grain dogfood.

I wonder if a change of food might help as it could well be down to another ingredient in the food as it may not just be a grain intolerance ?
