Hi Folks,
I had our 6 1/2 year old bitch spayed 13 weeks after her last litter. She was due to be in season again early March (she is very regular and barely goes the 6 months) so I wanted ideally for her not to have another season its a bit of a long story, which I wont bore you with. anyhow, I discussed this with our vet who is wonderful, he said that if she isnt in full blown season when she comes in he said it will be ok to spay her. Anyway, he did the op and all went very well, he said that she was probably days off her season. I was a bit worried about getting her done so close to a season as I know its best to do it in the middle but our vet said that generally vets dont like to do it due to the increased blood supply when operating but said if a vet knows what they are doing its fine and no problem..her scar healed so quickly and looks great.
However I did notice about 3 days later there was a slight discharge, bloody looking, there was no smell it was completley odurless. I mentioned it to the vet we saw (not the same one) for her post op check and he said that its not unusal for there to be a little discharge sometimes and to keep an eye on it and obviously bring her in if we are concerened at all..well 3 weeks on I am still noticing the odd little bit of discharge, its not much but enough for me to have noticed. Apart from this there is no indicaiton that anything is wrong? she is happy, bright, eating well, looks fantastic etc..I even took her temperature in case there might be a slight infection but all is normal.
I dont ever recall seeing any kind of discharge with any of our other girls after being spayed and am just wondering if it may be because on this occasion she was close to her season...I have also noticed just the once I have to say, after she had a wee, she came in to clean herself and there was a pool of wee on the floor like she had leaked..never had that before either. So I dont know if I should perhaps just pop her back to the vets to see what they think or am I just worrying over nothing?
If anyone has had anything similar after a spay I would very much like to hear about it to put my mind at rest.
Thanks
x
