Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / very early signs of girl in whelp??
- By yrlance Date 01.03.11 11:49 UTC
Well its just me not being very patient, my girl was mated the first time 3 weeks ago Thur.  Got tie etc, then again on the Sat, again good mating, then 3rd time on the Monday.
Now i am going to get her scanned week after crufts, 30 days from the 3rd mating.
Just wondered if there are any early signs at all, she is still eating well, but she loves her food..  She is well in herself too, running about but a bit less of late..
Thanks Yvonne :)

I found almost as soon as my girl was mated she lost a bit of interset in playing with my others and as she was the one that was the playfullest (is that a word?) I thought that might have been a sign. She did still play bt just not as much. She started sleeping more to.

Not really any physical signs to her body though

Fingers crossed for you x

She seems to sleep more but i dont know if thats just me looking...  I found her last night in my computer room on the sofa by herself in the dark, not like her at all...
Its her first litter we hope, but the stud was proven.  I so want her to be but trying very hard to stay calm.... lol
Fingers crossed :))

Hi Yvonne. The physical symptoms don't really show for the first few weeks. However I seem to 'sense' a pregnancy by about the 10th day just from the subtle changes of behaviour, being more needy and needing reassurance etc. Then at about 3 weeks we have morning sickness  and that is a definate sign for us. Good luck Hope she is with pups :-)

Not sure fired signs but I often see tiredness, clingyness, increased appetite in the 3rd week.
Some, but not all of my bitches get nausea or sickness in the 3rd and 4th weeks.

Hi Yvonne, I notice similar things with Tiegan, she slept more, seemed constantly starving, very clingy. At 4 weeksish she went off her food for around 2 days day and was sick twice in the mornings, probs becuase she had an empty tummy. Its so exciting isn't it, but the wait is awful, not long and you will know for sure:-)
Keeping my fingers crossed your girl is in whelp

I always check my girls undercarriage at day 21.  Not that I expect any change in teat size, but the actual nipples take on a totally different hue, and has always been my first indication.

(Which is why I always study the nips before mating!)

Exactly the same in cats! "Pinking up" at around day 21 means you will have kittens roughly 6wks to the day afterwards. I also noticed in my cats (shorthairs) that about 8-10 days after mating the coat suddenly looked much more shiny and silky. Due to hormones after a successful implantation I would think.

That's just made me remember that my girls nipples looked really bruised around 3 weeks after mating, they looked very pink/purple in colour.

And she also wouldn't leave my side.

My bitch changed her temperement, she would not let our male dog in the living room from about 7 days of pregnancy !
