I was at Asda 24hr fuel station on Friday and put approx £24 worth of diesel in.
I was just clearing out my purse and read the receipt and it says £70.09!!!!!!!!!!
There is no way I spent that much as there was 3/4 of a tank full and I topped it up, the tank only takes 60ltrs but the receipt has 53.96 being put in, I would of had to have an empty tank to be able to put 53ltrs in.

Has anybody has this happen before?

Can you go back to the garage and query it. With the details on the reciept they should be able to trace what happen. I would also only deal with the manager even if you have to wait.

Perhaps you paid someone else's bill? Did you tell them the right pump number? Had the pump been zeroed from the last sale?

Thats my biggest problem at the moment, it was Asda in Lancaster and I live on the Isle of Man, I was over for the Scottish Boxer club champ show and I won't be back over till next Wednesday (for Crufts)

I will give them a call, have spoken to my bank and the transaction isn't showing on my account yet but I know the 24hr filling stations takes a few days to come through but if it shows they are going to fill in a fraud form for me.

It was the 24hr self service pump and it was 0 when i started to fill and showed as £24ish when I keyed in my pin number. But yes I am thinking the same, maybe i have paid for the person before me?

Is it actually your recipt daft question I know but I have ion occasion picked up someone elses
I would def speak to asda and the manager of the petrol station so they can check their pumps and the amounts of petrol sold against recipts. Your receipt should show lots of information

You will also be on their CCTV tapes so the quicker you contact them the better - before they wipe the tapes and reuse them.

Think it may be that you just have the wrong receipt and you have not in fact paid that amount. I know the machine pushes out the receipt if you ask for it but there are times when I have asked and have not received so it is possible the next person on the pump pays the correct amount but gets the wrong receipt, lets hope that is what happened anyway.

something similar happened  up my way, I think the problem was the extra money registered before the nozzle went into the tank. it was in our local paper,

The reverse happened to me, my husband filled the tank, I ran into the shop to pay and paid £20.00 and was given the receipt.  When I got back in the car, I asked by chance how much diesel he had put in and he said that had put in £45.00.  I ran straight back in to pay the extra. What would have happened if I hadn't checked with my husband?  We could have been reported as not having paid as there was no payment made for the diesel taken from 'our' pump and I had actually paid for someone else's!

At least you owned up to your senile moment ;)  All my energies at the pump goes into making sure I put diesel in the Mitzy and van and unleaded in the car.
