Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Age old - Worming pregnant bitch - COnflicting advice

Hi all,
I know this has been on threads time and time again, but I have 1 47 day pregnant bitch - who I was worming from day 40 every day as text book dictates. However, stud dog owner and bitch breeder both say they do not worm as have had mummified pups - so I'm torn between my head and the advice of two breeders I really respect.
Any thoughts?

Well I worked for 2 big breeders in my breed for several years both of which used panacur 10% from day 40 and never had mummified pups in all the litters that I assisted. I wormed both my last litters the same way and had 5 healthy pup first litter and 8 healthy pups from a different bitch in another litter. This girl is getting wormed the same way. I would far rather worm than not...maybe these breeders would have had mummified pups anyway?

Im sure people who have bred mor litters will be along soon to let you know their opinion too but I have never seen any problems

Well I have wormed 6 generations of pregnant bitches without issues.  Only side effect seems to be well grown puppies.

Ive had 2 litters, been wormed with Panacur 10% from day 40 and gone onto have live pups.

EDIT:  Should have said my girl has had 2 litters...not me personally:)

Tanks guys, you know what its like - you set it up in your mind - start doing it - then some one upsets the apple cart and you panic and re think your steps! someone else suggested halving the worming  so doing it every other day

Have helped raise 10 litters, plus litter of my own. All wormed with Drontal 40 days plus. Am looking forward to new mating, will be following routine of using Panacur. Wouldn't consider not doing so.

?????  Why?

It is done daily - and is only a quarter of the normal adult dose, so no harm to your girl, or her whelps.

If you know people that had dead pups, my answer would be - coincidence.  Pups would have been dead anyway.  I'm afraid it's luck of the draw.  :-(

By halving the worming, you are decreasing it's efficency.
