been googling but cant get an answer
how much in COST to get to NEC 1.9 diesel car distance 94 miles
as im sharing cost want to be fair and charge the correct price
anyone know?

what milage per litre/gallon does your car do.? Working on 35 miles per gallon( approx 5 litres) I came to a figure of £20 roughly Your car may do less to the gallon I also rounded the distance up to 100 miles
This wher I prove to everyone how bad my maths is I hope I got that right

I would say for my 1.8 diesel, it would be roughly £23 for there & back.

I work on 30 miles to the gallon for our discovery, which is 6.6miles per litre at £1.32 per litre that makes aprox. £40 return for 99 miles each way .

We leave with a full tank then when home we make sure we have a full tank, Then you know exactly how much you have spend and split the amount between the folk in the car - simple!

Thats what we do too :)

Thats why, it makes a difference what kind of car it is the OP is going in, because my diesel Astra would be alot more economical at £23 for the entire journey

A van will suck more fuel per lt than a car, and adding 4 passengers and 4 dogs will make even less mpg. If you are basing your estimate on your normal journey as one (or two) people and 1 dog then you need to add on an extra allowance for the weight of the additional passengers and dogs. Simpler to as someone suggested to start with a full tank and do the sum at the end.
do you know how much it would cost to fill the tank ? the price of diesel these days i,d need to take out a 2nd mortgage

I can't answer your question as my vehicle is an estate car but one year I went up twice. First time me and a passenger. Second time me, 2 passengers, 3 dogs and a roofbox (for shopping) which added £30 on in fuel.

Do you know how many miles to the gallon your car does that way you can do the calcuation. If not assume something like 35mpg (5litre is approx 1gallon) 94 miles is approx 3 gallons mutilple by 5 gives 15 litres then see what you are paying per litre x 15 That should be near enough

4.5litres aproximately to the gallon, I'd say use 30mpg because of traffic, always a nighmare to the NEC, and idling eats up fuel..

Look at your owners manual for the van and it will tell you the tank capacity then you can get an exact costing.

Most companies allow a charge of 40p per mile for business travel expenses, regardless of the vehicle.
> Most companies allow a charge of 40p per mile
Yes but £36 each way for 90 miles..........Ouch

That would be for the vehicle; how many people are sharing it?
The allowance rate is also designed to take into account the wear and tear on the vehicles.
So the 40p per mile isn't just for fuel ;)

That would be wear & tear on the vehicle too, which a business would have to allow for but I suspect if sharing with friends, one would only want to share fuel cost only??

So that makes it easier - charge less than 40p per mile. :-) It just gives you a ballpark figure to work from, especially with fuel prices rising almost daily, the way they are at the moment.

I've done a rough calculation using average figures:
Diesel's about £1.35 a litre. There are 5 litres to the gallon, so that's £6.75 a gallon. Assuming 30 mpg, a 90 mile journey would use 3 gallons = £20.25 each way.

I am glad my maths was right in the end yep approx 20 pounds as my first post nice to know we agree jeangenie
