We have a wooden shed connected to a run for our pets. What heating could we easily install? We have a extension lead installed in the wooden shed already.

We were looking at panel heaters but want something energy efficient and snug. Heat lamps are not a possibiity as our cat tries to play with them!

I'm simply curious having replied to your other two posts - does your cat/cats share a kennel with the dog/dogs? It is an entire Tom?

Oil filled radiators that plug in could work, as long as you boxed the wire and socket in to stop chewing.

I don't use any heating in the kennels, the dogs keep each other warm.  But then I have Labradors and spaniels here, it depends on the breed(s), I wouldn't think it would be very pleasant for a small, sparsely coated dog to be kept in unheated kennels.  Mine have kept warm and cosy throughout winter, no problems; I'd always go for the half height boxes, which keep the warmth down with the dogs, rather than the walk in sleeping compartments.

Our enclosure is connected to the back of our house straight out the back door. So the dogs can go in this and no further into the garden as this is where my daughter plays.

So yeah they share with the cat but they all sleep inside.

The cat is neutered. I'm a VN and he was hit by a car a few years back so I took him on, he doesn't go out because he is wobbly as it caused a neurological deficit.

Its not unusual to find them all curled up with the cat on top.

The only reason we were thinking heaters is because the smaller dogs are terrible for sitting in the rain then sitting there shivering!

I'm confused - but that's not unusual and it doesn't matter - shed or house, but if the dogs sit in the rain I don't think a heater will help, they need to either be kept dry with clear plastic sheeting on the roof of the run or they need to be dried with towels when they come in :-)

Basically, you walk through our kitchen into our utility. Straight out the back door is a enclosure (about 22 feet x 16 feet) and connected to the far end of that is a large wooden shed - a glorified kennel really! Just means if they are left outside or choose to be outside that they have somewhere to go.

We do dry them off but the cavaliers in particular hog our radiators. I may get a panel heater for our next winter so if they choose to sit out there they can but at least they are snug. The lamp was amazing but our cat was obsessed and however high we put it he got to it.
