My 5 month old lab pup has a lump on his head = above one eye really - I have taken him to the vets and they said it was a benign lump or puppy wart and said to leave it be as it will eventually go.  That's great but its pretty unsightly and people keep asking what it is and then when I tell them moving away from him (vet said non-congatious) and he also keeps bumping it and it bleeds.  So I wondered if there was any tips from you guys on how to get it to shrink or drop off!

If he keeps banging it, I wonder if its just a haematoma?  Is it hard/soft?

Difficult without seeing it but if it is bleeding because it is getting in the pups way I think I would want it dealt with, if it is liquid it could be drained off if not removed - either way I would want it tested so I knew what it was and the likelihood of it returning.

The vet did say to leave alone - its not soft and I did ask the vet if it was worth testing and he said no.  I recently took my old cat to the vets for a lump on his neck which is totally different looking - and they did drain liquid from it but again said it was nothing and to leave alone. 

I don't really want to put him under a GA unless I have to. 

Someone mentioned putting on salt water solution to dry it out but I wasn't sure?

I go with Nova on this one.  To the extent that I would change to a vet that would investigate.  At 5 months I would rather a pup of mine have a GA and know what I was dealing with.  I've actually had surgery on an 8 week old pup (toy breed), so I obviously trust todays modern anaesthetics.  :-)

My dog had a small growth on his inner ear flap as a pup (noticed at about 4 or 5 months old), I had the vet check it who said it was a 'puppy growth' and would disapear (no tests done on it, just looked at & felt). It worried me, but never bothered pup. I can't remember how many months it was before it got smaller & vanished, but it did go away leaving no trace.
It looked like a wart, about the size of a large pea.

I am concerned that this pup is knocking it and it is bleeding.

Yeah fair enough if the bump or lump is just that BUT if the pup keeps knocking it and it bleeds it needs more investigation.

It will never heal if it keeps opening and bleeding.

A saline (salt water solution) will keep it clean. But wouldn't dry it out. Mix a teaspoon of table salt with a pint of tepid water and mix. Use cotton wool to clean but don't rub the area.... just dab.

Unless it is known what it is even bathing would need care, one dab and throw away and use clean piece of cotton wool or swab for the next dab and so on.
