A friend of a friend recently bought a Bichon Frise pup, who died after a week or so of parvo. It turns out of course that the pup is most likely from a puppy farm, and was sold to them by what they believe to be a dealer.
Now although they are upset, they want to follow this through, have notified the police and RSPCA but nothing is really being done. Are there other people they can report them to - trading standards? Anything they should mention? They don't want to let this one go as don't want others to follow in the same way, however they are finding it hard to get anywhere as no-one seems interested in their case.

Hi, did they take the puppy out in the first week? Im no vet so could be wrong but I thought once parvo was cought it affected the pup more or less straight the way, and not a week after. So is it not possible that the puppy cought parvo after it left the breeder/farm/dealer?

If not then I would take to small claims court, make sure you get evidence from the vet, etc.

I would report them to Trading Standards as the pup was sold not fit for purpose. I would also go to the Citizens Advice Bureau and ask if there is anything else they can do.

I would also be tempted to go to the local paper and see if they would run a story, but then that's how my mind works ;-)

Trading standards and also the local council if it was from a premises rather than delivered. If someone is dealing they should have a license and be inspected etc. Also contact Puppy Love as they will advise and also there might well be other people who have purchased sick puppies from the same person.

If it was from a local dealer/puppy farm they coudl try googling the name and see if they find other people in the same situation.  Ther is a local "Kennel" about 10 miles from me who are both puppy farm and dealer (licensed pet shop) they advertise extensively, but if you google the name you see literally dozens of posts and articles form people who have bought pups from them who have been ill or died, even been a couple of TV programmes about them. Trading Standards should help, but the position will be easier if they are already known to them.  Local press could be another route.  Of course, first have they contacted the person they bought the pup from direct?  This has to be the first step in the process.

Thanks for your replies - I will pass them on. It turns out that the puppy actually died the next day, and they are now left with a £900 vets bill just to make things a little bit more raw! Hopefully something can be done to close down this awful place. x

This little puppy is at peace now but its poor mother will soon be going through it all over again, and again.

Was the puppy KC registered, if so might be worth contacting the Kennel Club about this "breeder", they probably can't do anything legally but could stop the registration of future pups

How many times do we have to say don't buy from puppy farms? 
The people who do always seem to find the time to blame others when things go wrong but don't manage to do the research before they buy. :( :(
