Topic Dog Boards / Health / haemangio sarcoma (type of blood cancer)

Hi All,
Yes the topic is a mouthfull to pronounce. And even harded to accept.
Unfortunatly it is a very aggressive form of cancer in blood cells and our little darling `Honey` has it.
It initially started of as a suspect soft tissue injury to her back hock. When it became larger in size our vet suggested we have it removed. It was sent away for tests and came back as positive. To decide if we were going to remove her leg we needed to find out if this was the primary site of the cancer, or indeed if it had spread. We had to have an organ scan and a chest & heart x-ray carried out at the Glasgow Vet University. We were devistated with the result. She has indications of it in in both her lungs and it is only a matter of time.
We are just about coming to terms with it.
Do any other members of Champdogs have had any dealings with this nasty piece of work.
It is our intention to give Honey all that care that we can. We have decided not to go down the treatment route as this will have the  unfortunate side effects and we dont want her to suffer unnessary discomfort and stress.

Thanks

Marion & Lindsay Watt

Such a ghastly illness. I lost my 8 yr old GSD with splenic haemangiosarcoma but have no knowledge of it in the hock.
I know you will keep her comfortable, loved & spoiled whilst you have her. I do feel for you. It has made me cry and I lost Leika almost 15years ago. It is still raw.

I lost  my Henry ( HWV) to this aged 12.5 in 2008. Chest x ray for a small cough revealed it in his heart and lungs, we were totally in shock. The vet told us that his life was over and we let him go there and then still under the GA as there was no treatment and he had only a few days to live.He had no suffering and had been on a 2 hour walk the evening before. We felt he had lived life to the full right up until the x ray........................even so hard to take such a shock and I still miss him every day.

So sorry you are going through this

I havent had that particular type but lost my girl 10 months ago to bone cancer which spread to other organs too, and we are now going through the exact same thing all over again with my boy, this too has now spread and our time is coming to and end. for both dogs we treated with plt tablets which kept them happy, energetic and pain free until we have to do the right thing.

I send you lots of hugs and strength for when that time comes, its so hard but when you love them so much you know when to take away their pain and make it your own. x
