Hi everyone i am in the process of writing up a contract of sale for my pups that are due on 27th Feb. I would really appreciate advice from everyone on important issues that should be included. My friend recently had a litter that were health checked by her vet and no problems were noted. A couple that bought 1 of the pups rang her 4 days later to say that her own vet had noticed a hernia and a very slight murmor. My friend is devastated and feels responsible . She has now went back to her vet and paid to have a letter written to state that pup was not noted to have any abnormalities. When i take my own pups for health i check i will now ask for a written report which i honestly hadnt thought of. Any advice welcome

My vet gives me a written report on each of the pups, ticking the boxes as clear when checked, he doesn't charge for this, it's done at the same time as their final check up before they leave.
They are both things that the puppy is most likely to grow out of. I have my own stethoscope so i listen to my pups hearts as well as having a vet check. But a hernia should have been easily spotted by your friend. If its so small and doesnt need attention then thats fine, i do think some vets are all boo hiss with breeders and try to scare monger and label all breeders as conning puppy farmers, filling the poor folks head with rubbish.
Tell your friend not too worry too much, be responsible and keep in touch/show them that she is there for them and would like to be kept in the loop, if alls clear by 12 weeks sigh of relief. If anything the hernia may need fixing which she could pay for but i cant see her missing a hernia that needs operating on.

Thanks Sharon will ask my vet on Friday if he is happy to do that. What else of importance should i put in my contract. I have stated that kc papers will be endorsed and that new owners should take puppy to vet within 3 days for health check by their own vet . Have stated that i should be informed if they are unable to keep puppy for any reason and he/she will be returned to myself and cost refunded. Asked that they continue with regular vaccinations and worming and regular health checks and maintain a healthy diet for the puppy. What have i missed??
Thanks Louise this is why i want to cover every aspect so as i never find my self in a situation like that. what should i put in my contract

If you have put breeding endorsements on the pups KC documents then you need to make sure all owners know about this and sign your copy of the contract stating they know.
When they take the pup for a check up with their own vet, if the vet should find anything wrong with him/her, then you need a written report from their vet stating what is wrong, then you have to say what your intentions would be ie. to give a full refund if pup is classed unfit for sale. I also put the puppy is sold as a pet. No guarantee can be given as to its show potential or its fitness to become part of a breeding program.
PM sent of my most recent contract.
I would also advise you to send out a copy of your contract a while before the people come to collect their puppies, safer that way, then they can't use the excuse that they didn't have time to read it properly on the day of collection. Oh - and get them to sign each page too - I do as well for their peace of mind.

my pup was health checked before we got him, In the contract tho it stated we had 72 hours to get our own vet the health check him ! My vet checked him and said he had a heart murmer I argued for a second opinion so she called in another vet, Lo and behold he didnt have a heart murmer at all he was just sniffing lol !!
