Hello all , I'm hoping some of you can help me .
I took one of my girls to a boy that I part own but lives with my friend ( she does the show preperation ;-) ) yesterday for mating . I really didn't think she was ready as she was only on day 8 or possibly 9 ( I wasn't expecting her quite yet as she normally goes a little bit longer than this so wasn't checking every day ) so was planning to leave her with my friend for the week as she is a good couple of hours away and with the children I couldn't guarantee that I could get her there on exactly the right day if it was in the week .
Anyway , she dripped bright red blood on the nice clean white tiled floor , so we both agreed she wasn't ready and all the other dogs came in , including our boy . We stood chatting for a while , and the noticed he was starting to pay her some interest and she seemed quite happy with him doing so . So we popped the others away , and sure enough a mating took place and they had just over a 15 minute tie .
My confusion lies in the fact that we were both sure she wasn't ready ( she has had a litter before and mated on days 10 and 12 but had lost all colour at the time of those matings , and had a cracking litter of 6 ) and yet she seemed quite happy with him and stood for the mating and held the tie . Could she have been ready even though she didn't look it ?
Any help and advice would be great , thanks :-)

Some bitches continue to bleed throughout the season and during the period they're ready for mating.

My bitch shows colour right through her season. :-)

one of my girls did too plus they can be so different with each season when it comes to ovulating.

Ooh , fingers crossed then ! Just worried as it seems so early and different from before . Due to circumstances I am not able to do a second mating now , so I guess it's wait and see if she really was ready , or she's just a tart ! ;-)

Why???  

It isn't relevant!  One of my girls bleeds heavily, continues throught the ties, and finishes when she is at the end of her season.  She still conceives and whelps normally.

And not all bitches have the same pattern for each season.  I have heard people say "my bitch always ovulates on day 14" but I really don't find that my girls stick to the same pattern.

The bitch that bleeds all the way through (and is due to be spayed), has had 3 litters   Conceived on day 18, day 28 and day 8, in that order.

Wow ! I am quickly learning that we should not have made the assumption that she wasn't ready , but even my friend who has been breeding successfully for 20 years didn't think she was . I guess you keep learning and I'm glad now I didn't try and wait for a colour change as I guess it wouldn't have happened and I would have missed her . I guess all girls are different then and there is no hard and fast rule for them all. Thankyou all for your help , I'm  fairly new to this and still learning !

I'd still send her for secondmating just in case and it ties her over a longer period for you.

My girl bled bright red all the way through and has just produced a litter of 13 , she was only mated once too.

I am working on trying to get her back for a second mating , but 2 of my children are unwell and don't think I'll be able to do the 5 hour round trip :-(
I have checked her today ( so just over 48 hours from mating ) and she is losing much less now . Is there any way she would have accepted and stood for our boy if she was not ready ? Normally I thought they were quite grumbly if not the right time .

Some can stand before ready or when about to be ready.  she could have timed it right and the boys stuff can live 3-7 days.  could the boy come back to you instead.

That's an idea , I will put that to my friend , although I may have to quarantine the children first ;-)

Just to let you all know , I put the kids to bed last night and did the trip back up for a repeat ( their dad was with them , I didn't just leave then ;-) )
My girl was hilarious , dancing for our boy , showing off , backing into him and flagging for England !! They had another good mating and a 15 minute tie , so now we play the waiting game and see .

Hope it works out for.  Sounds like she was very ready lol.  And you have a good span over her fertile period.
