Has anyone exported a pup to Canada?
Do you know at what age the pup would be able to go?
Any other info about the paperwork etc gratefully received.
Also: For those who export pups abroad, when you do the KC endorsements, do you leave off the endorsement for registration with foreign KCs? Doesn't that mean you have to leave that off for all pups because when you register them you won't know which one is going to go abroad yet...?
Thanks.
can only say regaurding kc reg if you know the sex of pup then you can reg them all and just pick 1 for the pup thats going??

Unless you are microchipping your pups, or you have different colours within your litter, can you not just chose a name and allocate it to the pup that is going to be exported? Otherwise, I would just endorse the whole litter and then write to the KC to lift the restriction when the decision has been made. The endorsements won't stop the pup actually being exported and the paperwork can be sorted pretty quickly with the KC nowadays.
LOL forgot about different colors!! lack of sleep and because all mine are same colour "Dah" i do worry about myself sometimes ;)

Thanks guys.
Yes, there probably will be different colours in the litter. And because they will be docked (legally), they must also be microchipped.
So, the best thing is to endorse the whole litter and then lift the endorsement on the one I send abroad? How long does it take, from writing in to the KC to request the endorsement is lifted, to them actually doing it?
I think I will probably end up keeping the pup back longer because I'm sure it can't fly at 8 wks...?? I'm thinking I will probably have it till 10-12wks, so will send it fully vax and will have time to lift endorsement between the rest of the litter going at 8 wks, and this pup going at 10 or 12?
Thanks

If you know the name when you register the litter you can leave the bit for that one on the endorsements.

Nothing special needed for Canada unless rules have changed in last 2yrs ? When I sent a pup over there was requirement for Rabies vaccine, they do need to be chipped and got the pup issued with a pet passport so his pre travel health test could be registered in that for the airline.
My boy went out at 14 wks BUT he could have at 12 wks if my memory is correct (earliest the airline would take him). We found it was much cheaper for new owner to fly over and take him back excess baggage. So my owner got a trip to Crufts as well .. hows that for great timing .LOL
I lifted endorsements at the same time as registering pup in new owners name, as this must be done for issue of Export Pedigree.

Thanks klb
I understand the age of the pup depends on the airline, rather than the country (I think). It looks like AA will fly pups at 8 wks... Assuming airlines will fly pups at 8 wks, what do folk think about flying pup at 8 wks with no jabs, versus keeping pup till 10 wks and flying with both jabs?
I found this website:
http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/anima/imp/petani/canin1e.shtmlIt seems to say that there isn't a need for the rabies jab if the pup is under 12 wks/3 mnths when it comes in, and is coming from a rabies-free country?

If you keep the pup past 12 weeks it will need to be Rabies vaccinated and then can't go for 21 days.
Pups can fly at 8 weeks.
Also if the bred is small enough they may be able to take it in the cabin with them as a couple did take theirs from me at 9 weeks old in a flight bag to Atlanta in USA in 2005.
Vaccination protocols are quite different in the USA and Canada being spaced out lot more with more jabs.

Thanks Brainless, so if I understand that right, you'd be on the side of the pup going as early as possible and having all jabs in Canada?
Can dogs go as cabin luggage to the USA? I thought that for transatlantic flights they had to be in the hold. Do you remember which airline it was they flew?

If they are under 10 pounds they can go as hand luggage in a flight bag, otherwise it is checked baggage in the hold which si still way cheaper than Cargo.
Delta allow it as do American Airlines, you need to check each airlies policy.
