pups are 4weeks old and was weaned early due to mist not having much milk she has none now even tho they suckle from her but their getting very upset and crying running around the box
right my problem is thay just arnt eating much at all!! their weight gain isnt very good :( and afew are skinny im worried about giving them the runs if i change their food but thay dont get stuck in to it at all....if i give pro plan and Nature diet mixed some will eat it some just have a lick and walk way!
if i give ND on its own with warm water mixed they will eat most of it but only 1st meal of the day, i carnt get them to drink much water and their poo is alittle hard i do think its down to ND because it make mums hard too when shes had some they love mince and im defrosting some for their next meal and will add some water to it...im thinking about trying them with rice pudding and witabix never feed pups food like this but ive got to get thme eating what do you think???
thanks

have you tried making some scrambled egg with puppy milk? When i wean my puppies i try and give them a variety as they tend to turn the noses up at complete puppy foods, i also give mine sardines. Raw beef mince, boiled eggs, etc just to keep them interested,
Try mixing some minced tripe in with the soaked food or giving just minced tripe. I have always found my pups fall on it like little wolves. Doesn't seem to cause upset tums either.
thay not touch puppy milk at any price but will drink goats milk so il mix the eggs in that thanks
xxxx
will try the tripe too :) thanks
xxxx
when shes had some they love mince
Then feed mince. And eggs and fish and tripe .........
but will that be enough for them ??? for them to grow well and get the right vits, sorry if that sounds like a stuid quesion, never had a litter like these, normally ive only had to ad puppy meat to their food and they scoff the lot!!

Get them eating and then you can start mixing a tiny amount of complete, which you'll gradually increase.
They won't be getting nutrition if they won't eat the complete. :) :)

Are you soaking the dry food? If so then you don't really need to worry about them drinking too much.
sorry i thought you meant for them just to eat that LOL lack of sleep!

yes their food is soaked with alot of water still there to make sure.

Hi Jo, I had the excact same problem with my litter (6 weeks today). I tried Royal Canin Starter Mousse it got them interested straight the way. Its expensive at 1.59 per tin but it was a miracle for me. They wouldnt touch anything else.
did you give that are add it to their food kanefizz??? these are large breed and 9 of them lol i dont mind paying that if its added to food and works but no way could i afford to feed 9 of them on just that ,were did you get it from??

for what its worth .........
My terrier bitch was on hunger strike , the only thing i could get her to eat was diced beef, now i , like you, was well aware that this is not a balanced diet for a bitch in whelp. i bought a small bag of wainwrights and some of the PAH puppy pate, soaked the Wainwrights and put the pate in the microwave for 15s the served it, left her to it and she scoffed the lot (for her though i did mix in some of the beef cut into tiny pieces). not sure if any of this is of use to you but i think when your in a desparate situation you'll try anything. Re: RC starter mouse - i had the RC rep out to see me last night and we tried my bitch on this which she liked and the mini starter kibble - again she loved it so maybe its worth a try, at the end of the day you want to get the little munchkins eating so if you end up having just one tray of RC mouse and get them going it would be worth it.

maybe add goats milk to there water too to encourage them to drink it :)
> but will that be enough for them ??? for them to grow well and get the right vits,
maybe worth a post on the feeing board or a separate post on this board for breeders that feed and rear on raw?

Not my favourite food by any means, but the tinned Pedigree Puppy Chum, mashed up and zapped in the microwave for a short time gets very smelly (should I say "fragrant"?) and really seems to attract even the most reluctant eaters. Once establisehd with it you can then go on to mix soaked, mashed puppy complete, and gradually move on to just the complete. A dollop of live yoghurt helps too.

ditto :-)
Gwen the pedigree puppy chum has worked a treat! thankyou their eating great now apart from 1 little boy so im feeding him on his own after the rest have finnished he just sits back and lets them eat it all then even tho food is left he not eat it ??? but he does when hes away from them.

Glad I could help, there is something about it's smell when warmed that they just love. Don't worry too much about the one who hangs back, I often find pups who have been bottle fed (I think this was the litter you struggled with? Sorry if I am remember incorrectly) want a bit of a personal touch when eating solids - one of mine refused to come off his bottle till he was 12 weeks old! As he is a smaller pup I would just pander to his wants and feed him on his own, more concerned at this stage at getting him eating, and eating enough, than maintaining the same regime as the rest.
Yes gwen its this litter :) ive got him a small dish and he stays with them but eats from his dish bless him hes eating very well like this as long as theres plenty of ped chum in it ;) their all doing very well now and will be 5 weeks old on wednesday ,their eating 100g of soaked pro plan 1/2 ND tray and a tin of pedigree chum puppy all mixed to gether with goats milk nice poo's not 1 bit sloppy nice fat bellies :)

So glad to hear they are doing so well, I know how worried you must have been about them. Now you get to enjoy all the fun bits without the worry and sleepless nights :) It sounds like your little guy is developing a very individual character. Pipsqueak, my boy who refused to wean, is a very determined small boy, very demanding, but so loving - very self confident and self centred too, very much a "people person", puts up with the other dogs but would much rather "hang out" with humans.
we have 1 boy called dozer as in buldozer lol he is the 1st to the food the 1st to come out to play and 1 of the girls is now being a diva she wants her own dish too LOL so going to get her 1 she dont want to stand with the others to eat! 2 of the pups are so nosey i will be glad to wave them off lol they cry when ther out playing and want to go back into whelping pen then they want out lol they keep the others awake amd my goodness can scream the house down :( apart from that they are doing very well...and last night was my 1st night back in bed :) carnt wait for tonight now LOL
xxxx
So pleased that everything is going well :-)
