Hi All

My friend is breeding her bitch and this will be her first time.
She has fallen in love with a stud, he has a fantastic pedigree and has been bred really well and is a good example of the breed, he hasnt been shown as he doesnt like it!

This will be the first time for both the bitch and the stud dog, so everyone is a little nervous but really excited as this litter could be amazing if she takes.

Can I have some tips to pass on please?
IE how they should meet, where they should meet pretty much anything anyone is willing to share!! :-)
Also the dog has had some problems with other dogs in the past, how can we make this as stress free as possible for him as he loves his bitches, just not to fond of dogs!

Sorry I am having a cynical day but...why is she breeding ? Is it for something to keep for the showring, to improve the breed or just to have a pup for herself?
Falling in love with a sire is not the right criterea for choosing him. If I were her I would be looking for a used boy who knows his job. For 2 novices to start with 2 unexpierienced dogs is not the best start. There are lots of dogs I love but not many are the right ones for my bitches
Does he compliment her bitch? how does she know he is a good example if he is never shown? It sounds like his temperament is not 100%.
Forgive me if I am reading your post wrong but I do think a little more in depth reserch is needed. There are lots of good males out showing themselves to be worthy of breeding , tell her to have a look for an expierienced stud.

I was thinking along the same lines. With such a popular breed, with too many being bred, I'd be extra cautious. The dog doesn't like being shown -I would want to know a lot more about that. I have a dog and a bitch that doesn't like being shown. Both are great at home but they are scared of strangers. I have managed to show the bitch now and then, she has an RCC, was joint top puppy in her breed one year. She is most definitely being spayed as I do not want to pass her temperament on. Likewise her brother has just been implanted with Suprelorin and if if all goes well he will then be castrated. They are both very nice looking and healthy but it isn't enough.

If I was the first time breeder, I'd look for an experienced show AND stud dog (where she can get to see some previous offspring) rather than take a risk with an unknown quantity on both counts. Might be different if it was a very rare breed but in a breed with such a lot of choice I'd want the best and not compromise. Two maidens is never a great idea.

I was going to say what about his more experienced sire, would be better on a maiden and she may well produce something that resembles this dog she so admires. Would avoid using a dog that dislikes showing in a breed that is normally so outgoing they love it.

Sorry, have assumed this is your breed and that his siblings are more outgoing.
