Topic Dog Boards / General / Dog Breeding Legislation - Irish Republic - Urgent

Please sent an email and request that the Minister signs off this legislation before it is shelved - all that is needed is one signature which at the moment is not forthcomming and time is running out.

We need this legislation to be passed because at the moment there is no legislation for dog breeding in the Irish Republic.  The UK is getting flooded with poorly reared litters of puppies bought in by dealers to be sold in pet shops.  The Irish legislation will not prevent this but it may make the life of the breeding bitches/stud dogs that live in these awful puppy farms more tolerable.  It may also reduce the numbers of dogs euthanazed in the Irish Republic and the hundreds of puppies and dogs bought into the UK by UK rescues to find them homes.

Thank you Polly.  I know by members on here not viewing this thread or saying they are prepared to respond by sending an email I should not be dissapointed because it happens all the time but I am.  But when I consider that there are 400 plus replies on another thread relating to responsible dog breeding practices, ethics and the health of the pedigree dogs versus x breeds produced by show breeders, puppy farmers, commercial breeders, back yard breeders etc are you not concerned about the poorly bred puppies that flood the pet market from the Irish Republic?  Some that are very likely to bred from at some stage in their life. Please take in the bigger picture we are not talking a few litters here and there we are talking thousands a year and it is getting an ever a bigger market.
By licensing in Ireland and placing some restrictions on breeders it may, I am not saying it will but just may slightly improve the situation. If this legislation fails to get signed and does not becomes law then it is likely to be another ten years or longer before it is looked at again. Please take a few moments to email the Minister. Thank you.
