Hiya our youngest boy at 7 months has just broke out in his teenage spot stage, our other dogs have had it in the past but with his mum just finishing a season its really brought them out. We took him to the vets already he did suggest a little injection of antibiotics if it got worse but just wanted to know how others have coped, and what have you used?

Only had it once, with our first Boxer over 20 years ago, took him to the Vet who said "aah, teenage acne."  Remember washing his chin with hibiscrub, I think he had a short course of antibiotics too.  Thankfully never had it again with either Boxers or Frenchies.

One of my flatcoats suffered badly as a younster and I used aloe vera gel as even if they lick it off it works from the inside out as well as the outside in (if that makes sense :) ).

My flatcoat and lab suffered really badly bathing with salt water solution helped. the flatcoat still gets it now when due in season and funnily enough the hasn't had it since being spayed - only had her spayed due to VERY heavy seasons.

Flatcoats are very prone to the spotty stage, as they do with the spectacle (baldy eye) stage.

Two of our Boxers have suffered what the vets calls "Boxer Acne" the boy grew out of it but the girl has has it twice,once on the chin and once on the side o her nose,I don't want to scare you but the bitch had some antibiotics I can't remember what the name was but she was really ill with them (bleeding internally) and was hospitalised for three days she had suffered an allergic reaction so now she has a red allert for this drug on her file,our other dogs have had the same drug for various ills with no side effects,on the second occasion she had it we were perscribed Fucithalmic Ointment (Antibiotic) which cleared it up in a couple of weeks also cleaned with weak solution of Hibiscrub.

Teatree or straight hibiscrub put on is very good for acne!

My lab had teenage acne under her chin when she wsa a youngter,vet prescribed steroid cream,soon cleared up,she also went through the bald eye stage.

Yes it certainly does look odd, the Frenchies seem to get it in their first winter, then thankfully it goes when the better weather comes.  Funnily enough the brindle Frenchies have always been worse than the pied, our pied girl who is double hooded doesn't have it at all, yet her litter brother looks awful. Jane Lilley mentioned it in her DW column a few weeks ago, someone recommended giving the dog a banana a day, we are doing that, no change at all but the two youngsters love banana!!!!
