I have a shih-tzu whos is almost 11yrs old. She is eating well and loves her walks. My problem is that she is losing hair on her back and on her neck. It is getting quite thin.
Is this normal or could there be an underlining cause for this.

There could be an underlying cause for this and I would seek the opinion of your vet.
Maybe have her thyroid tested?... my 9 year old bitch started losing hair on her neck and it became thin and brittle. She also became quite lethargic and very fat... Her thyroid levels were checked and they were really bad. After only 5 weeks on the medication she is like a different dog....
Just a thought....

I would have her checked for AI

Funny you should say that. I have noticed that she has put on weight. Sleeps a lot (which I put down to age) but she still has her mad 5 minutes.
I will take the advice and get her checked.
I lost one last year, I don't want to lose another one . Not yet

My eldest Bearded Collie was exactly the same. After blood tests she is now on thyroid tablets, and she has got a new bounce in her step.

I have an appointment for next week so we will see what is going on. Hopefully it is nothing serious.
