Was at class last night and a lady was talking to me and suggested using white spirit on my dogs coat as aparently it makes a fantastic dry shampoo and will bring his coat out gleaming...... I WILL NOT be using white spirit on my pup. Was just wondering if any one has ever heard this one before or used it or if this woman is compleatly out of her mind??? Im a dog groomer by trade so will stick with what I know lol :)

Are you sure she didn't mean Surgical Spirit? This is harmless and I used to use it clean the fur on the undersides of my rabbits' feet when I used to show them.

Maybe she got it wrong and meant surgical? I would never use WS on a living creature. It's bad enough having to use it on yourself after painting. Just hope nobody lights up a cigarette near the dog....!

a good shampoo for white dogs is enough to move most dirt and muck

When a golden retriever got tar on his feet a local chap cleaned them off with white spirit and this is very very bad! The vet went mad as it is not to be used on dogs or any other animal. The poor dog had very sore feet and was off colour for a few days.

Good grief I dislike the smell of WS that much when I paint I wear rubber gloves and throw the paint brushes out when I have finished , if I need to carry on the following day I put them in plastic bags so I dont have to go near WS...

I caant stand it wont even have it in my house..... When the woman said about it i had to ask her again as i thought i misheard lol.....She doesnt even have a white dog like me lol...... Anyways I politly told her her advice was not needed ! 2 weeks running she has tried to ""advise me". Im gonna take bets for what hair brain idea she will tell me next week lmao x
