Well after all of my worries about the first night with Lucy, we put her in her crate at 11, she woofed and whined for 45 minutes, then was quiet until we let her out at 7.45 this morning! Her crate is big enough that she has her bed at the back and paper at the front. Toilet training is so frustrating is'nt it! She's done quite a lot outside, but often we'll take her out for five minutes when she won't do anything, then as soon as she's back inside, she goes! Time time time:D

Nic,
I absolutely hate housebreaking as well. My new pup is now 13 weeks old and is just beginning to stretch the times out a bit between trips outside. Unfortunately, she is not one of those pups that gives a very obvious indication, like barking, that she needs to go out. But, she is obviously getting the idea about where she should relieve herself. Relief (for me!) is in sight.
I keep my pup in a dog crate by my bed at night. She is not able to make it through the night, but she whines a bit to let me know. So it is still a trip outside at about 4 am, fortunately, both of us fall back to sleep afterwards.

congratulations on your first night, on our first night with blade i was up about 3 times and again on the second, after that he was fine. He is now 6 months old and would always wake up at 7am, but by the time i got down stairs he had just done a wee, so what i started doing was getting up at 6.45 then let him out straight away. we have now gone back to getting up at 7.30 and he is dry. But if we try and have a lie-in at weekends, he has had an accident, so no more lie-ins for us for a while. You did really well for your first night, keep us posted

hi all , we've had Cru'Ella a week yesterday. She's a 10 week old Newfoundland bitch.I HATE toilet training ! its horrible because we expect her to go on paper at night~but outside during the day! it must be so confusing! for now , we're letting her go on paper during the day but also take her out regularly ( after play/meals/sleep etc).....though she dosent allways want to go outside ( more often than not she waits till she's back in the warm comfy house before going!)...but can i blame her when she feels the paper is the right place !!

Hi Ali,
Yes, it was me!! Could'nt organise getting rid of the children for the morning :D so could'nt make it :( Next time! I'm in Ramsey, so not far from you and Lynn at all. It would be great to meet up, once Lucy has settled (or should that be when we've settled? ;)) we'll have to get together.
