hi
a friend of mine had a litter of pug pups 12 days ago by c-section. the mother would not feed them, slowly one by one they started to fade. he was left with one little girl.which i ended up fostering after a week. she is putting on weight and is currently 123g she is taking aroung 30-40ml aday. she is doing her ones and twos.
the problem i have is that her back end is always wet?
just after some advice and guidence.
cheers

omg that is tiny for a 12 day old puppy even a pug. What milk are you using? Is she suckling? or are you having to syringe / tube? As far as the wet bottom could it be urine dripped around the anal area?

Might be that her muscle tone is not well developed and she's leaking urine or she might have a UTI.

Might be worth getting her checked over (dip stick urine to check - wiggle the dipstick over her vulva to stimulate urination) just to rule that out, a UTI will need treatment.  Otherwise it's a case of wait to see if her back end dries up as she matures a bit more and grows a bit bigger.

I don't think it's unheard of for girl pups to have UTI's due to their anatomy i.e. easy for a mother licking or a human with cotton wool to push a little germ up inside.

Hi, well done to get her to 12 days, 123 g is very small for a pug of this age, but I have had them this size at this age (and older - one was 4oz at 4 weeks) who have pulled through.  If she is gaining steadily it sounds promising.  With pups this small, even at 12 days I still treat them more like a newborn and keep them on 2 hourly feeds as they simply can't cope with longer gaps. I try for 5ml per feed which works out at more than she is taking, but again, if she is gaining then it sounds like the amount is OK.

I don't have any experience of the wet rear end problem, and would go with the advice others have given and get her checked at the vet.

Sounds like it could be an ectopic ureter - "wet puppy"

she is feeding from a bottle, milk is skinners puppy milk. all the charts say for 123g she should be drinking around 30mls. she is doing fine she lets you know when she wants feeding.i just needed some advice about the wet bottom, i thought it was urine just needed to check.

hi thank for the post
she does her ones and twos when stimulated to do so.i have had this with bull dog pups before. i was just worried with her being so small she has a lot of fight for such a small pup.

she seems to be taken more and more now every feed. she is just under 5ml every two and a half hours.
