Any advise please, puppies are 29 days old and have been on Royal Canin Mother & Baby for the last week and have been doing well.  We were feeding pups (10) on mum but supplementing using welpi just to help mum out.  All puppies teeth are through so we have been weaning off mum, just an occasional top up, this has been going very well.  They are nice chunky pups, sleep 7 hours at night, their last feed being 11pm.  The last two days they have not been eating much food (RC) we make it with cooled boiled water/welpi to make a porridge consistancy.  Last three feeds they have barely touched it, they lap water now from their bowl.

They have been fed at 7am,11am,3pm,7pm,11pm, do you think the 5 meals are too much, Im starting to worry now, should I cut out the RC last feed at night and use a bowl of watered goats milk (welpi) run out now???? any advise please. Also can I use something else to feed them with )I do have Proplan here for when the RC baby porridge runs out???

pro plan is fine to use i use it from day 18 when i start to wean, are they due to be wormed? sometimes they go off their food around the worming is due are they large breed? is mum still giving them milk that might be why if not try adding some wet food to the mix watch them eat it them ;) i only give 4 meals to my large breed as they do eat alot
a good wet puppy food should do the trick its always worked for me good luck ,ive got all this to come in 3 days time when i start weaning these :) xxx

Thak you, mum has only fed them twice today, as there teeth are like needles, so I do not make her go in too often.  They were wormed last saturday with Drontal puppy (in their 3rd week) yes they are a large breed, but perhaps 5 meals aday is too much???  Shall I stop adding welpi to the food and only use goats milk?  Also what wet food do you suggest?? so confusig:(

natures diet do a puppy food that came be warmed up my last litter of 3 pups loved this food they had 2 meals of this aday and 2 with pro plan with mince in, at this age i use goats milk to mix in the food or add to water for them to drink, ive also used tinned pedigree puppy too just added a spoon full in ther pro plan mixed it in it was more for them to smell which got them excited to eat it, i find sometimes if theres not much smell to their food they dont get interested.

".......i find sometimes if theres not much smell to their food they dont get interested."

You hit the nail on the head there white lilly. From my experience of rearing puppies it's the smell of what would be their natural food that gets young puppies eating quickly. I always use finely minced raw tripe for their first few feeds and they are immediately interested in it when all other weaning foods are more slowly taken up.

I wouldn't be making the food as sloppy now and i wouldn't add milk to the food either just give maybe once a day from a bowl, but if mum is still feeding then they shouldn't need extra milk. You should let her have free access to them so she can naturally wean them off herself. 5 meals is fine, i always do 5 meals for my large breed, but then saying that they are greedy and always eat it!
