I have just bought a 7 week old westie, he has no papers as his parents are not registered, and I myself am not interested in showing him. However, I am planning to start puppy training when he is 12 weeks after his jabs, as I believe it will help give my pup the best start.
My question is, Is it possible to do agility ( only local comps) with a non KC dog? I would love to try agility as I feel he would enjoy it so, and there are some classes held locally.
Thankyou

I would imagine it would be the same as competitive Obedience Lindsey. If so then all you need to do is to register your dog on the KC Obedience Register. Although to compete in Exemption shows in any field, be it Show, Novelty, Obedience or Agility no dog needs to be registered.

Hi Lindsay
You can do non competive agility with any dog but if you wish to compete in KC registered competitions at any point I imagine you will need to register with the obedience and working trial register.
Christine

Any breed of dog can do agility and compete, I have Junior in agility and he loves it. There are also a lot of cross breeds in it as well, the same as flyball. They always have agility and flyball competes on t.v, lots of mixed breeds, and border collies.

I have a border terrier x who does competes in agility , all you have to do is get a form from the KC for working agility and obedience trials and register your dog with that.
All you do is fill it in with whatever you wish to call your dog and thats it.
Good luck

Thankyou all so much for all your help. We now have something to work for - towards, which always helps. It sounds so exciting, and I am nolonger worried that I would be frowned upon for buying an unregistered pup, who I love so dearly!

I don't think it's the 'buying' part of an unregistered pup that causes a fracas on here...
it's if you decided to proudly breed her without any research or base knowledge and just because..... in the future which would cause huge frowns to appear. :) ;) :D
Enjoy your puppy. She really sounds like a sweetie.
