Topic Dog Boards / General / my dog attacked by a pit bull today
- By chelzeagirl [gb] Date 19.01.11 00:06 UTC
Hi all,

I have not been on in soooo long hope your all well and had a great xmas and happy new year to you all,

I came on tonight because i am still upset of the event of today and cant get it outta my head and it really upset me,
my Rottie was attacked this morning by an off lead pitbull type dog as my partner was coming in the house from our dogs walk,
as he crossed our road in front of our house to come in this dog came running from nowhere straight at my boy and it literally jumped between our 3 dogs who where all walking with my partner on lead,
2 EBT'S and our Rottie, and it went straight for my rotties throat , my partner struggled to part them while trying to keep the bullies back till my son ran out grabbing them, the owner of the pit bull , would you believe was casually walking toward them,  then just standing their with an open laptop held in his arm and was tapping away at his keys we shouted at him to get his dog , he just said "what do you want me to do" as he was still just standing their facing the fighting dogs using his laptop my partner was really struggling and this pitbull was flipping round and round madly and had a good hold of my boy throat,
eventually my partner got it off and the man took his dog by his harness , i got my dog in checking him over while my partner went out to have a go at the owner to have a go at how the man just stood by and done nothing,

the man was just sitting on the wall opposite my house still using his laptop then his phone all while his dogs ear had been ripped by my dog during the fight,

when my partner had a go he started waving something at him and staggering toward him clearly hi as a kite as well as drunk,
we called the police and they arrested him and seized the dog they said it did look like a pitbull and would be destroyed after it was checked out at a place where they take these kind of dogs,

anyway my boys got some cuts and a leg injury but is ok  thank god, i believe the only reason his neck weren't ripped open was because of the large studded collar he had on my partner is still shocked up by it all and has even shed tears today and he's a big man who dont normally show emotional side of him so that's saying something ,

I feel totally heart broken at what the other dog must be feeling to have been shut away in the police dog kennels then taken to a strange place to end his days ,

IM glad my boys ok and gutted this happened to him, but cant help feeling sorry for the other dog also as i dont blame him i blame the owner,
neighbors who see what happened say it looked like he was filming it and i will say it was odd how he had the laptop resting on his arm open with light of the screen on,
this all happened at 7am this morning and im still in shock,
only wish they could give the owner the same fate as his dog will have :-(

yes,me too.its always the dogs that pay the price, but poor you,how absolutely horrible.I hope your poor dog is ok.
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 19.01.11 08:29 UTC
Oh that's awful I'm so sorry for your boy, and it does sound really dodgy how he was using the laptop like that. Sorry for the poor dog which just had a stupid owner and now has to be destroyed too. :-(

CG,

What a horrible, horrible experience. This is getting to be such a problem for all of us that live in urban environments.

I'm glad that your Rottie is okay physically, you'll now need to monitor him for his reactions around other dogs of the bully type- hopefully he is old enough to be able to brush the experience off, as being something out of the ordinary. If, however, he does show signs of anxiety/fear aggression around other dogs be sure to take advice immediately and get him some help.

You have my sympathy. I no longer find walking my dog relaxing and feel that I have to have eyes in the back of my head. I too have had near misses with offlead dogs of the type you describe.

I hope the man is charged and punished. Yes, it does sound as though he was filming.

Best of luck.

So sick of hearing similar stories, your poor Rotti, I hope that he will not be affected by this, give him a hug from me. At least the police acted and quickly!

These type of owners.

How awful for your poor boy and poor OH.

I hope his wounds heal quickly and that there is no lasting damage.

I know what I'd like to do to owners like that, but couldn't type it on such a lovely forum!
- By ali-t [gb] Date 19.01.11 19:51 UTC
Oh, your poor rott.  Give the big bear a hug from me.  I also find it sad that the poor staff/pit is going to end its life due to this incident and as a result of the lack of love, care, training and guidance it had from its owner.

OMG celzeagirl, how horrible :( That must have been so frightening.

Glad your boy is OK, fingers crossed he's not left un-nerved by this.

Ahh, bless you for still caring about the attacking dog, even though you must be feeling very mad and shaken up. Sadly, with an owner like that, the poor dog is probably better off being PTS..

Long time no see - I've missed you and your cheerful chat.  Happy New Year, and so sorry for you, having such a horrible experience.

I do understand your sympathy for the attacking dog - we're dog lovers, so it is a natural reaction.  Unfortunately, the scumbag owner has probably ended the life of the poor animal.  I do hope that your boy will not be too affected from a behaviour point of view.  Poor old lump!  Give him a cuddle from me.

Hope to see more of you.   {{{{  HUGS  }}}}

Thanks all :-) xx,

my poor boy does seem a little nervy but only as we come into the house crossing the road,(where the dog came at him )
he seems to be looking around him a lot and a bit on edge almost like his waiting for something to happen,
other than this he seems ok when over the park and out on walks, i  hope he will get over it in time,

last year seemed to really drag for me , mums still needing more help than ever juggling it all has been a bit of a strain but find i appreciate the time i spend with my dogs a lot more as they are my release and being with them gives me alot of pleasure ,

and well my Bully boy always makes my laugh in fact all 3 of my dogs im sure are complete and utter nutters that just love a good game with me, my zeus is talking more than ever and now regularly gives me the wooohoowoooo as i come in the door and as bully hears me talking back to zeus he's also started getting a bit verbal loooool,,,,    im sure i'll have them saying "wi wove woo" by the end of this year hahaha xxx

I am so sorry to read this and am shocked at what occurred.
To be honest the other dog is better off pts for two reasons, one, he can't hurt any other dogs, (which no doubt he would do, as he made such a beeline for yours, he was clearly encouraged to do this) and two, he can't have a good life being owned by a high, horrible person who films his dog fighting :(

One thing is that the police will no doubt have all the evidence they need from his laptop, which I guess they don't usually get!

All your dogs sound just wonderful and I hope your rottie boy recovers well and that peace is restored.

Best wishes and hugs,

Lindsay

Hi Lindsay thanks i been so busy and hadn't heard anything from police until today in fact,
my OH received 2 calls from police today while he was at work ,
one was to ask how he thought the police dealt with the matter,
the other was to ask who my dog was registered to as RSPCA will be coming round to see me and my dog to check he is ok :-/ ,
Bit late i think don't you!!

i find this very strange indeed and cant believe they have time to be doing this sort of thing when their are Animals else where who could really use their help,

other than that my boy seems ok a little more weary when he's outside our house still , but he seems ok when over the park and on walks and we meet a man with a friendly staffy type dog the other  day over the park, gotta say i was bit worried how my boy would be,  but he was fine lil stump going like the clappers :-) said hello nicely had a sniff and all was fine phew thank god,

as for the rspca i dont know what they really expect to find but they can come i have nothing to hide, im not abusing my animals, im not leaving my boy injured ,
and im not keeping savage ferocious beasts, and no illegal breeds here,

so let them come but i will for sure have to politely tell them i think their are better things they should be doing,
i am no fan of theirs after the neighbors abandoned dog issue some years ago when they where bloody useless fools, (SOME OF YOU MAY REMEMBER)

and that same dog is now still their locked up 24 hrs a day never getting any form of exercise, even worse the women's daughter has moved in and brought her 2 pittbulls so theirs 3 dogs locked up in that house now, tho the constant barking has stopped probable due to the fact the dog now has company to be miserable with,

Then again i did tell police im a member of dog trust,,, so maybe RSPCA  are coming for a donation hummmmmm,

How peculiar that the RSPCA are calling, I guess you will find out more about that when they've been.

I hope things do work out satisfactorily somehow, the fact that they now have 3 dogs is a bit crazy, isn't it.

Hi, I am a new user to this forum with problems of my own but after reading your post mine seems nothing..........I am a new owner of a puppy for the first time and I can only imagine what you must have felt during the attack. Its beyond me how the owner can't be dealt with in the correct way and quickly and that the poor dog like you say has to be PTS..it the owners fault and not the dog.......I wish you, your dog and family all the very best of luck in the future xxx
- By chelzeagirl [gb] Date 15.02.11 21:40 UTC
Hi their yes i thought Rspca calling on me was odd to but then i do live in an  rough area where alot of yobs walk round with mad looking dogs and some use them as weapons ,
so i can only assume that the police want the RSPCA to come and check that my dogs are not being used in this way after all i do have 2 breeds of dogs that are typical stereo typed as bad breeds,

well if this is the case then at least their checking up , and i have nothing to hide,

the 3 dogs i said in my last post are nothing to do with the dog or owner who's dog attacked mine, its about a long running issue with a neighbor whos dog was left barking and alone for days on end and rspca where called as the owner abandoned the dog in the house no food or water for 5 days while she went away, they ended up leaving the dog in her care and till this day its still their locked in that house the women NEVER walks it and even tho her daughter has now moved in with her and her kids and 2 pittbulls none of the dogs ever get taken out for a walk EVER,,,,  its so sad, but rspca do nothing as the dogs look healthy, all but their over grown claws, :-(
