I remember worrying about this too Jo when i had pups last year , it turned out my girl was just too warm with all 10 monsters feeding from her / cuddling into her . Is Mist drinking any better ? make sure she's not dehydrated ?. Does she look ok in herself ?

My heavy coated girls always pant a lot in the couple of weeks after birth. They get too hot in the box. They hate lying on the vet bed but the pups need the warmth! Many times they lie outside the box and watch the pups sleeping. By 2 weeks old they often spend more time outside the box than in it and just hop in every couple of hours to feed and toilet the pups. I always have a water bowl just outside the box in the same room so they can have a slurp whenever they like. They often stand in the box and drink from the bowl just outside it. As long as the discharge is normal and she is not lethargic I expect she is just too hot. If she wants a break from the pups let her have a time out but just make sure she is going back to them every couple of hours.

Is it possible or practical to move Mist and the pups to the kitchen, maybe she's missing the others on top.

Are you able to turn the heating down slightly now to help her as the weathers altered and we've had to do that to keep an even temp.  My old girl kept going outside and sitting, even in the wet at 5.30 in the morning.  i was not amused lol.

Maybe she is just not very maternal. Let her rest wherever she is comfortable and just make her go in to feed when the pups stir. They are fine to go 2/3 hours now as long as they are getting full tummies when she does feed them. Are the eyes opening yet? If you are worried they are not getting enouth I would be rolling a little fine minced beef into small balls and popping into thier mouths 2x's a day. It will not hurt them now.
