Topic Dog Boards / General / Insurance again! Which companies give cover for whelping?
- By G.Rets [gb] Date 15.01.11 22:59 UTC
Sorry to drag up the insurance topic again but can anyone tell me which (good) insurance companies give cover for whelping? Thanks.

I doubt any like most human health insurance :-)

The Kennel Club do, or certainly used to. They're the only one I know of.

Agria which now is with the KC does.

I thought Petplan did (a breeder's policy, not the standard policy), but maybe wrong?

I think it's just the KC but am not 100% sure.

Many thanks. I'll make some phone calls now.

the kennel club do breeders insurance it is really good and it also covers pups in the litter until they are 12 weeks old. you can also cancel it when it is not needed as well, i have used it for my last few litters.

Karen, do I understand you right that you can take the insurance up for the period and then cancel?
So could take it up for lets say 3 months and cancel?
If this is the case I'll be first in the queue after my last litter and huge vet costs :)

I do this all the time Noora, and have done it for the last few litters, never had any objections, it covers just about everything even fertility testing, and the pups until they are twelve weeks old. i usually start it the month before the bitch due to be mated and then for 12 weeks after.

Re the KC Policy, they changed it so that the policy needs to be in force 3 months in advance of mating :-(

Blimey that is interesting I didn't think there would have been insurance to cover this . What do the policies cover then and how much does it cost ?

https://www.kcinsurance.co.uk/home   just did a quick quote on one of my girls and it's £35.24 a month with a 10% excess and it covers up to £5000 which includes fertility tests and c-sections

So in theory if you were for example insuring a bulldog the premiums would be through the roof because of the high risk of having to have a CS ?
