Topic Dog Boards / General / Introducing a new dog to the family

Hi everyone I'am seeking advice on the above topic. I have a 2yr old westie that has been with me since 8weeks old and is very loving and caring towards us. I have recently seen a westie on the dogs trust website that has lost its owner due to death and have fallen in love with him. So my questions are what would be the best way if I were to get the other dog to introduce it into the home and to my dog without him getting jealous or violent towards the new one (he has never shown violence towards other dogs but this is his territory) Is it possible to bring in another dog without the above problems. Any advice you can give or tips would be much appreciated. Regards Sally and westie Chalky.

if your getting a dog from the Dogs Trust they will want to introduce your dog to it their to see how they get on, maybe over a few visits depending on how the first one goes.
It is always best to introduce dogs on nuetral ground ie out on a walk etc before trying to introduce them at your own house but it all depends on what your dog is like with this dog.
hope it all goes ok, i'm sure the Dogs Trust will advice you on the best way forward.
