Hi i have a 3 year labrador and so far since 7th Dec 2010  thirteen of her nails have dropped off with above diagnosis. We are soaking her feet daily in hibiscrub and awaiting all to fall off. Has anyone any advice they could give us or recommend anything else we can do, our vet has recommended us to continue as we are but maybe we could give some supplements. thanks.

Hello,

My 8 yr old lab has SLO.

Her treatment began with steroids and viacutan, she was slowly weaned of the steroids and is now on viacutan only.  She has the occasional flare up which will result in loss of a couple of nails, but in the main is fit and well and long may that last.

At her first flare up she had all nails removed under ga, this relieved much of her pain and she was able to be excercised on hard surfaces .

Hi, my 10yr old Greyhound has SLO. He has been on preds in the past but cannot tolerate them very well.  He has also been on Oxytetracycline and Vitamin B which also helped. He had a bout of it about 3yrs ago and a minor episode last year but thankfully seems not too bad at the moment, it definately seems to come and go.  The yahoo site is very helpful, good luck with her treatment.

I have a bitch with SLO I give her biotin tablet one per day , evening primrose oil and zinc she also has garlic and omega three fish oils ...no flare up for 4 years....she has horrible nails short but probably classed as normal length they dont cause her discomfort and she is stable on this treatment .
(she did loose a nail a few years ago which was when her diagnosis was made ) she has never been on steriods .
I personally think the biotin is the key .
