Unfortunately due to his front legs & feet being 'Queen Anne style', (think of the Hush puppy dog only far worse) Otto doesn't walk through his ankle joint but across causing him to drag his middle two nails. Since his course of Cartrophen he is far more active and enjoying his walks, but today I noticed when we got back that one nail had been worn so short it was bleeding. Do normaly ensure a good mixture of surfaces for him to walk on and if they get too short we don't walk on pavements. I know he would not tolerate a boot and would probably be unable to walk in one, is there anything I can do to help build up the nail other than keeping off pavements?
Many thanks.

would he cope with a pawz disposible boot? They are like balloons, last for many walks, and you just pull on.My old girl has arthritis badly, and turns her hind paws onto their fronts, with each step, grazing her knuckles, and these were a godsend, much easier than socks and tape.

Colliepam. Many thanks for your response, they look light enough that he might cope with them anything larger & I think he would end up falling over his own foot. When your girl wears them to prevent her grazing her knuckles, being rubber do they catch/drag on the ground.  I was wondering if wearing them on his front foot if they would trip him up - but unless I try won't know!

Yes,I see your point, back feet arent so bad!TheyDO drag a bit,but Im not sure how much is the boots and how much is flyss,as she does drag her feet, anyway.Sizing was trial and error, too,i got the purple ones first and found them a little too big, shed tread on one and pull it off, then i tried the blue medium, which were load better.they cost about ten pounds(not bought any for ages,so may be more now,got them online, just type in pawz direct disposible dog boots, into google)But if you d like to try a pair of the purple ones,if you pm me your address,il send you some,i only use the bigger ones for over bandaged feet now, anyway.

I have exactly the same problem with my SBT Daisy, I used the Pawz to great effect, but they do tend to rip if your doing off road walks. Now I use nail caps which have been an absolute god send, Daisy just scuffs her two middle nails on one front paw, having the nail caps on means I no longer have to bother about them at all, she has the caps on all the time. The caps tend to last for between 1-2 weeks before they wear through and I just pick them off and stick new ones on, they also work out a lot cheaper than the Pawz.

Celli, Many thanks for your post, could you please let me know where you get nail caps. Paws are great but find the neck of the boot too tight and if I were to get them any larger he would be tripping over them. Best wishes Lacy

There are a few different makes, the ones I got are http://www.softclaws.com/soft_claws_dogs/home.html?pet=dog, that's their own web site in the US, but I got mine of a GB seller on E Bay. They come in some weird colours but thankfully they do come in clear and black too, I think mine were medium, they are a bit long but are easily cut to size with scissors, they also come with their own glue.
I thought Daisy would hate wearing them as she's one of those " the sky's falling in " types but she doesn't seem to even notice them.
