I have just seen the following ad in my local weekly paper:

Small stud dog We have a Poodle cross now in season. We need a stud for her as we would like to have a litter.....

I just hope that no-one is stupid enough to offer their dogs 'services'.

This is crazy - I wish I worked for the local paper in the advertising dept, I could have a field day....

Seeing as people are not learning in any way I wish the papers would show a little more taste towards the adverts they print - still it's the £££££ signs there as well.

I was fairly horrified when I saw a similar advert ... on my vet's noticeboard (admittedly not a cross). They took it down!!

You've obviously not looked at the free ad sites on the internet? That really is very worrying.

Iv seen even worse adds cropping up recently usually like this... I have a (******) bitch, 2 years old due in season soon, proven etc would like to swap for.... then they reel of different breeds. Shocking is all I can say

Maybe the owner of the 9 month crossbreed I groomed yesterday would be interested, she asked me when he would be ready 'to stud' and I was caught on the hop without a polite and positive way of putting her off the whole idea that wouldn't make me sound like a pedigree snob! I said something about physically being capable now, but needing to do all the health check for all 3 of the breeds in his make up, commented that one of the breeds said no breeding before 2.5 years, and dropped dark hints about character changes.....

Like it, for bitch owners dropping the cost of an emergency caesarean into the conversation has to be good one.

I had someone approach me for use of one of my boys.  For a start, the bitch was nowhere near big enough for breeding.  I mentioned this, and dropped into conversation the fact that one of my bitches - over breed standard size, had needed an out of hours section at £1,086.00

I thought they were going to have a bloody seizure!  :-)  :-)  :-)

Yep does turn people green when they realise that in normal surgery hours your C section round here will be over £500, evening twice that and middle of the night job after midnight three times.

So true Brainless. And then if they are lucky enough to not need a section what's to say that one of the many many other emergency problems don't crop up and need OOH treatment plus medication and 24hrly checks at the vets. I have a large breed and it's not just the OOH section costs I warn people about but the cost of having to hand rear a litter which considering my breed usually have between 8 and 16 pups can be astonomical and a lot of people haven't even thought about that!!!

i too have seen adverts like this

Yes I have seen lots of these sort of adverts Trialist the worst one on a free website advert was two dog tied and the bitch scanned in whelp.
