Ok , so boyfriend not too keen on the London Dungeons ( re last post ) but has said he'll take me to the theatre. My choice of what to see but i've no idea whats on and whats good!

Any ideas?? :)

I've seen a few and the following are good fun and not hard going.
We will rock you - a lot of fun and you'll know the songs
The lion king - amazing show...
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 10.01.11 19:06 UTC
For a musical or an actual play? David Tennant and Catherine Tate are in Much Ado About Nothing at the Wyndham this summer, tickets are going fast!!! Or as a huge Queen fan I can recommend We Will Rock You!
- By mcmanigan773 [gb] Date 10.01.11 19:15 UTC
Wicked, Mama Mia and the Lion King are the best 3 I have seen. I have seen the sound of music too but I wasn't too keen on that one.
- By huskypup [gb] Date 10.01.11 19:21 UTC
Jersey Boys is very very good, highly recommended.  I also love Chicago and have seen it more than once (my hubby loves gawking at the girls too so it keeps him happy :-) ).  Not keen on any ALW musicals.
- By Sawheaties [gb] Date 10.01.11 20:20 UTC
Can only help with musicals! We will rock you- fab if you like Queen music, full of energy. Billy Elliot- really enjoyed this, Les Miserables used to be good when on at a larger theatre, Mama Mia- too cheesy for me. Lion King great scenery and costumes, more for a younger audience.

Good luck

Lucy - I'd love to see Much Ado about Nothing - hadn't realised it was on, but the tickets are so expensive! I'm lucky that I live near Stratford upon Avon - I've just booked tickets for the entire forthcoming season there for the price of one seat in the stalls at the Wyndham!
- By codysholasmum [gb] Date 10.01.11 21:08 UTC
Has to be Jersey Boys.my daughter took me to see it (cheap works do) absolutely brill would go again & again ,just my age group.
- By earl [gb] Date 10.01.11 21:49 UTC
Oooh lucky thing!  One of my all time favourite feel good shows is Mamma Mia and even if you've not seen it before, you know all the song words!  Phantom's another of my favourites and The Rocky Horror Show is well up there at the top, but it's not everyone's thing.  I loved Rent, but again, it's not everyone's taste.

I'd love to see The Lion King, have heard it's wonderful.

Let us know what you go and see and have a fab time.

Simone :)

Would love to be able to get down to see Warhorse. I've not seen a bad review yet.  There are lots of clips on youtube :-)
- By tashataylor [gb] Date 10.01.11 21:56 UTC
Phantom of the opera most definately!!! absolutely fab and have been 3 times, going in feb to see love never dies (phantom 2) cant wait!!!!!
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 10.01.11 22:00 UTC
I know, I couldn't believe the prices! But for me, David Tennant's worth it, let alone adding in Catherine Tate too! :-)
- By jane [gb] Date 11.01.11 06:46 UTC
One of my faves is Blood Brothers, it was my husbands first trip to the theatre when we saw it and he loved it. I just love the theatre, the whole atmosphere just makes it a fab night out so Im sure you will enjoy it whatever you see.
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 11.01.11 08:40 UTC
Just asking about Jersey Boys, for some reason they give me the creeps when they are on the TV and I don't like them at all and I know a number of people who have said the same, is it different in the theatre with the atmosphere etc?
- By earl [gb] Date 11.01.11 10:08 UTC
How could I forget Blood Brothers???  Another brilliant show, well worth seeing.  :)
- By Carrington Date 11.01.11 10:51 UTC
Seen Blood Brothers 4 times, (no doubt will go again) absolutely ***recommend***  it, best show ever.................. IMO. :-D
Wicked - Brilliant (lovely theatre too) Phantom, Lion King
Saw, Pricilla Queen Of The Desert recently, drag queens galore, lots of good music
Mousetrap of course, 39 Steps is also very funny.

To be honest, there really isn't anything not worth seeing.

Going back to your first thread. I love The London Dungeons, very gruesome, but shows the way of life at that time, worth a visit IMO, I've been 3 times so it must be good to hold my attention. :-) National History Museum is also one of my stop off's in London from Dinosaurs to gem stones it's a place you can spend hours, also got an ice rink if you fancy a romantic skate (Never found Madam Tussauds's to be longer than an hour or so visit, at a stretch)

Have fun whatever you do, but can't go wrong with Blood Brothers.

It's as brilliant as they say - I defy anyone to see it and not cry (it does have a quite happy ending but not one to see if you want a laugh a minute, happy show)
- By tina s [gb] Date 11.01.11 17:41 UTC
Wicked- its great. my son works in that theatre and its been a sell out almost every day for 2 years!
- By sugar [gb] Date 11.01.11 20:27 UTC
Wow!! Lots of suggestions. There are lots of people recommending the musicals , would someone who's never really watched musicals enjoy them? I've seen The Woman in Black advertised - has anyone seen or heard about this one? My mum's read the book and says its very good but don't know how a play would compare.

Been to see War Horse already and thought it was fantastic!! :)
- By suejaw Date 11.01.11 20:40 UTC
Heard that it is worth seeing sugar, but if your OH is not a theatre goer then I'd stick to a muscial which you can both enjoy!!
My father likes musicals and can be a bit funny with a deep story line. He enjoyed We will rock you, it's a comedy with queens music.. Don't know anyone who's seen it and disagreed!
- By earl [gb] Date 11.01.11 21:59 UTC
We Will Rock You is futuristic and a bit out there (as I can't thing of a way of putting in words what my mind's thinking!).  We saw it in Vegas and, while I really enjoyed it, I think you'd get more out of it seeing it in this country as you'd probably know the main cast members and get the local jokes and references.
- By Tracey123 [gb] Date 12.01.11 14:15 UTC
Ive seen Wicked and it was wicked!!! I keep badgering on to people how amazing it is! Its funny, sad, romantic and just oozes character all the way through. I went with my parents and bf. They all loved it too!
- By Debussy [gb] Date 16.01.11 20:42 UTC
I went to see The Woman in Black about 6 months ago with my kids (13 and 15).  The play was fantastic.  I read the reviews and didn't expect to be scared because there are hardly any props/scenery etc.  The atmosphere is created very cleverly and I couldn't believe how creepy it was.  My kids absolutely loved it.  I won't spoil it by going into details (don't read book if you can before play - but the book is slightly different anyway).  You will become part of the ghost story and it feels like you are there in the foggy causeway.

Would thoroughly recommend and there are usually cheap tickets to be found for this show - and it's in the heart of Covent Garden so easy for restaurant after.
- By sugar [gb] Date 18.01.11 10:19 UTC
Ok , turns out bf is more of a theatre go-er than I thought!  Have booked the Woman in Black and he has promised not to laugh when i'm too scared to walk back to hotel in the dark!! (I'm a real wimp)

Might save some of the musical suggestions till next time , but at the moment I just fancy sitting down and enjoying soemthing a little quieter :)

Lots to learn eh?? :) :)  Have a good time. :)

You got me looking at this Debussy, and have also just booked tickets for April on the basis of it. I like a good scare now and again!

Somewhat late to this, but will carry on as replying to Debussy. The Lion King is fantastic, so well done. If you like that sort of thing, Priscilla Queen of the Desert was fantastic - loved it, but I guess it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea.

Hope you enjoy Woman in Black.  Am hoping to take my parents to see it in summer.  I am also going to see Les Mis for the first time in three weeks with my daughter and can't wait.

My OH always moans when I book tickets for a play because I always have a shop around while in London.
- By Tracey123 [gb] Date 25.01.11 16:07 UTC
I also looked at 'woman in black' after seeing it on here so will be intrigued to see what you all think.
- By Lily Mc [gb] Date 09.04.11 21:47 UTC
Was my trip to The Woman In Black today - loved it, thanks for the recommendation Debussy. Very cleverly done with minimal stage set up.

Glad you enjoyed it Lily.  It is a little gem of a play which I could enjoy again.  I think I read somewhere they are going to make a film version of it.
- By Tessies Tracey Date 11.04.11 21:28 UTC
Keeping my fingers crossed that now War Horse is going to or at Broadway it will find it's way across to Oz at some point soon!!!
Got the book, the 'making of' DVD and it just looks out of this world!
