Really really hope Mist is ok...you were quick to get her the help she needs.
Pleased the pups have taken to the bottle, whereabouts are you..I dont work and if you are in the Teesside area I am willing and able to help you anytime.
- By Reikiangel [gb] Date 09.01.11 18:20 UTC
Fingers crossed for you all.  My neighbour has a large breed with four week old pups.  If it comes to that to help mist (think positive for now) i could ask her, she plenty of milk still at the moment.

I'm close enough to help out if needed.  I'm sure everything will be ok.

Keep talking your angels.

Oh no!!  I haven't checked in for a couple of days and had no idea things were going wrong. You can do it young lady!!  Look how much stress and strain you have been under recently and you have always managed to keep your girl and her pups the top priority!! You are stronger than you think and even though you are at your lowest right now this is when your love of your girl and pups will take over and pull out every last ounce of strength and determination you have. Everybody on here is rooting for you and supporting you. Keep in your mind that once the pups are weaned and strong and healthy you can have (and deserve) a mini-breakdown!!!!
- By toffeecrisp [gb] Date 10.01.11 00:58 UTC
well done on getting mist back home and well done you, your hubby and daughter on feeding those puppies.
The only way is up now...keep going, we are all here for you:)
- By Reikiangel [gb] Date 10.01.11 08:21 UTC
Thank god, she turned the corner for you.

A few good pieces of rump steak should help her, lightly fried.  The things we do.  I'd let the pups still feed of her, at least every other meal.

Hope you got some rest. xx
- By Zajak [gb] Date 10.01.11 08:33 UTC
Oh thats brill news, so pleased and fingers crossed she continues to improve now the bleed has stopped!  What a relief!
- By WestCoast Date 10.01.11 08:35 UTC
Raw red meat and plenty of fluids for her to make milk WL!
Hope things look up now. :)
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 10.01.11 10:56 UTC
Oh thank goodness she's back home and on the mend!!
- By dottysmum [gb] Date 10.01.11 11:05 UTC
Wonderful news, so pleased for you!
- By Merlot [gb] Date 10.01.11 12:04 UTC
Just caught up on this thread after the W/e.
Hope all is progressing well today. I am so sorry you have had such a distressing time. Hope Mist is feeling better now.
Huge {{{{Hugs}}}} and Berner cuddles coming your way, we are all keeping everything crossed for a great outcome. Keep up the good work and remember tired as you are in 10 days time if you are still hand feeding you can wean the pups so it's a very short time in the big scheme of things. Let Mist do as much as she can even her warmth and comfort will help the pups and she will recover quicker with her precious babies by her side.
Take care and don't loose hope.

Don't worry about things you can't do anything about!! :) :)  If she's not used to a raw diet, then keep feeding her the normal diet inbetween. :)
- By white lilly [gb] Date 10.01.11 15:42 UTC

> vet said she can still feed pups when she gets home is this right??? xxx <

I have had two bitches spayed at seme time as C section and both reared their pups fine.  Most recently May last year.

Depending on if she has had a temperature etc may mean her supply may not be what it should be so keep an eye and top up until she is back to normal.

Keep an extra eye on the pups nails.
- By Justine [gb] Date 10.01.11 18:56 UTC Edited 10.01.11 19:00 UTC
:( Sorry to read about your bitch whitelilly. I know exactly how worried you must be and I've got my fingers x for your girl and the pups.  I'm glad you have managed to get some food into them.

I gave my bitch steak and liver to help build her up too.  Her milk ran dry before she was speyed and she was too tired to attempt to feed the pups.  I too was relieved I managed to get them to eat.

Hopefully now your bitch will go from strength to strength :)
- By toffeecrisp [gb] Date 10.01.11 22:23 UTC
Im sorry you and your girl have gone through this...thankfully she is on the mend and the pups are thriving..well done you:)
- By AlisonGold [gb] Date 11.01.11 15:02 UTC
Haven't been able to reply until now. I am so pleased to hear that Mist is doing well, just the greatest news.
- By white lilly [gb] Date 11.01.11 16:23 UTC
Hi alison today has brought changes she started peeing what looks like dark bloody stuff out :( shes just back from vets he thinks an infection just up inside her because she has nothing left inside her it was all taken away ,so now waiting for vet to ring to see if thr new AB's are ok while shes feeding! its 1 thing after anoughter :( shes not drinking much so i bloody hope her milk dont dry up now! xxx
- By STARRYEYES Date 11.01.11 17:21 UTC
Hi WL are you sure she is peeing it out or is she expelling it when she pees but from her vulva ..if that makes sense ..  my girl who we discussed before was expelling a discharge that was thick pale green gunk with blood in it the consistency ..only way to discribe it is glupy she had a very strong antibotic which made her milk dry up to clear it up .Why I mention it is because when she peed the slight straining to pee made her expell the discharge so it was difficult at first to know where it was coming from .
- By Justine [gb] Date 11.01.11 20:17 UTC
My bitch did bleed for  a few days after speying and our Vet said it was just old blood from the problem and it did clear up after about 3 days.

I gave her goats milk/water mix aswell to keep her hydrated :)
- By white lilly [gb] Date 11.01.11 20:31 UTC
HI RONI
vet said it wasnt from inside because everything has gone and its all tied up ???? this is what hubby said i wasnt here lol i dont know ,when we watch her peeing it comes out 1st then its normal then she keeps trying to wee then little spots of blood vet said its a water infection god only knows roni shes got to go back tomorrow shes on noroclav 500mg 2times aday and hes going to put her on something eles as well for a water infection ,how long from your girl going on strong AB's did her milk dry up??? pups are a week old tomorrow but ive had to feed them a few times today has they were crying when she was feeding them so her milk could be drying up already :( she was starting to do so well yestaday eating and drinking you could ear pups drinking well from her but not today :(
will have to see what the night brings and then the vets tomorrow xxx
- By AlisonGold [gb] Date 11.01.11 20:48 UTC
You are having quite a time of it. Hope the Vets sort this and things can calm down. Try to think positive though, she is still with you and it isn't many days since that it looked like touch and go. The pups will just have to be weaned as soon as possible. I would most certainly start them as near to two weeks as possible. Positive thoughts are coming your way.
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 11.01.11 21:22 UTC
Oh no I really hoped everything would be ok from now on, you don't deserve this grief! :-(
- By white lilly [gb] Date 11.01.11 21:53 UTC

- By Noora Date 11.01.11 23:00 UTC
I have somehow managed to miss your post!
What an awful time you have had :(
I'm sure you are past the worst and it will get better from now on :)!!
- By JeanSW Date 11.01.11 23:06 UTC
Jo I'm sorry to see that Mist isn't out of the woods yet.  Glad though that pups are still hanging in there, because without you willing to feed them and help your girl out - well,, doesn't bear thinking about.  I'm thinking of you.

Jean  xx

I really wouldnt worry about having to hand rear as someone else has already said what a joy to still have your girl with you ...it was so obvious really early on that my girl had no milk so I began feeding the bottle right away but gave puppies to mum to still clean and even let the puppies suckle as this kept mum happy too , I tried everything to get milk production back but it just didnt happen ...mum did think she was feeding her puppies we just got into a good routine ..we only had half the amount of puppies as you so it will be harder and time consuming.
Cant remember which anti bio she was on but she had to have 2 courses before we saw a real improvement ..although mum was eating and drinking plenty which helped her to recover .
- By white lilly [gb] Date 11.01.11 23:33 UTC
im so gratefull mum is still here with us :) :)
she hates me feeding them bless her i just wish she would drink but i carnt make her i want her to eat and drink more for her sake so she feels abit better ,she will get there i know she will and pups will be ok too :0) il do my very best for them thats all i can do xxxx
- By STARRYEYES Date 11.01.11 23:40 UTC Edited 11.01.11 23:47 UTC
you are doing brilliantly she is just so lucky that you are so dedicated to your dogs ....its just one of those things that can happen to any one ....

Have you tried her with the lactol slightly warm or even very cold?

meant to add it does sound like a water infection ....hopefully it is as that will clear up pretty quickly with the right antibiotics..just keep an eye on her temp as I have a girl who has a tendency to urine infections I have  noticed she has a high temp along with it , which could also be why your girl wont drink...
- By white lilly [gb] Date 12.01.11 01:26 UTC
she did have her temp took at the vets it was 39.4 she goes nuts now if i try to take it :( and i dont want to hurt her or feel so stressed shes been though so much!
yesterday she was drinking lactol warm she had about 2pints though out the day and water when she went intio the kitchen to go out the kitchen is cold and shes always only gone there to drink it even tho i have bowls alover the house lol ,but today she not drinking it just a lick and walks away, hopfully she will start different meds for it and feel alot better in 48h or so she has eat some tinned puppy meat cheese chicken not alot but better then nothing ,going to get some natures diet tomorrow fingers crossed she will eat it ,i know shes ill this is a girk that was eating lots of food inbetween whelping her babbies and drinking so much water ,she loves her food il know she better when she tucks in again! xxxx
- By helensdogsz Date 12.01.11 05:32 UTC
Get a syringe preferably a large one  as she is a big breed and syringe water into her mouth. I had problems with a small dog I was fostering refusing to drink whe she had her puppies. At first it was a bit of a struggle but she son realised that it was quite pleasant and would drink from the syringe even if not from a bowl. It also helped me as I could see how much she was drinking.
- By white lilly [gb] Date 12.01.11 05:38 UTC
ive tried this and she gets out of the bed and leaves her babbies :( i was thinking about  cranberry juice???? the low sugar one wonder if she would drink it but would it harm the pups when going though her milk??? shes just been out and she is now peeing alot of blood :( poor girl shes been thought enough now! she has just drank a small amont of milk (lactol and water) i carnt wait till shes back at the vets today and she gets differnt AB's xxx
- By Zajak [gb] Date 12.01.11 08:58 UTC
HI Whitelilly.  If its any consolation, my last girl to be speyed kept "weeing" blood for a few days.  Hope the vet can help today. With my recent litter, my girl went on hunger strike. Organic goats milk, egg and water (with a little glucose powder) warmed slightly in the microwave really encouraged her to drink and at least she was getting some nutrients.  However, the only thing I found was that it gave her the "trots" if she had too much.  The only difference I suppose in that your girl doesn't want to eat because she isn't feeling well.  Lets hope they find antibiotics to help today.
- By cocopop [gb] Date 12.01.11 09:25 UTC
I have found a spoon of honey in warmish water encourages them to drink :-)
Sorry for what you and Mist are going through x
- By STARRYEYES Date 12.01.11 11:05 UTC

- By PippaJ [gb] Date 12.01.11 12:17 UTC

- By AlisonGold [gb] Date 12.01.11 20:25 UTC
There is a recipe for a gruel that contains porridge oats, honey, milk, egg, glucose and puppy milk powder. My bitches love it after whelping and it gives them a boost. If you want the recipe to see if you can encourage to take more fluids, let me know.
- By white lilly [gb] Date 12.01.11 21:14 UTC
Alison il give anything ago ,she is eating now tho :) its the fluid intake now thats the problem she just dont want to drink much at all she not drink in this room or in her whelping box (she will eat in there tho) the only place she will drink is from the bowl in the kitchen she goes out a good few times aday and night but only has a lick of water all her food she is eating is wet soft ie boiled chicken, tinned puppy meat, raw mince with socked and very wet puppy kibble, cheese from her whelping and haveing her op she hasnt lost alot of weight and i do think has pups drink from her she will eat more has she starts to feel better i think i will try glucose in her water again has i havnt gave her any for a few days and see if she will drink it just not sure how much to add per a pint of water ??? dont want to give her the runs.
