I need to pick the brains of some of you once again, if you were to take a dog over seas i.e. mainland Europe (Holland) to show your dog apart from the pet passport stuff do you need some sort of number like a KC number but for that country? If so how do you go about getting one and how long does it take to come through?

The only thing get asked for is on you dog's entry details is to give the KC registration number of the dog.  This should be the actual KC reg number, NOT the stud book number (if the dog has one).  I normally do my entries online for abroad through a portal such as www.doglle.com (like a higham or fossedata service) as their system is easy, all my dogs are on one database and it covers show throughout Europe and Scandinavia.  Just remember to take your dog's vaccination record along with the passport (if you do not have your dog's annual vacc's recorded in the passport) for admitance to the shows.

As Harkback said.. no registration process required just put KC reg number on entry forms. If you want to enter Champion Class you also need to send a copy of the dogs Champion certificate with the entry or you dog will be placed in open. If your dogs wins a CAC in Holland the Dutch Kennel club will write to you for a copy of your official KC pedigree for their record.

Another question.... we have exported before and some of the new puppy owners have had to take copies of their KC paperwork along with them to get into the ring, would we have to do the same and would it have to be the original or a copy as our ped is an A3 so is quite big.

When I went to Holland the documents asked for a copy of the pedigree.  We entered online so decided to bring a photocopy of the pedigree as they didn't have a way to attach the file- wasn't going to risk the original.  We were never asked for it, even after a win.  And the Dutch I spoke to said it was an outdated practice.  Now I'm thinking about it they didn't check the dogs passport to get into the show either.  Saying that I wouldn't go to a show over there without copies in my show bag, just in case!

If a pedigree is asked for we just produce the standard KC 3 generation one (a colour photocopy) on A4.  Always carry this anyway along with the dogs vaccination records just in case but many shows you can send the KC pedigree as an attachment to your entry, or as an email attachment to the secretary before the show if they ask for one.
